A big crowd gathered to celebrate 25 years of netball in the BFNL last Sunday at the Bendigo Club. Players, coaches, umpires and administrators from each era reminisced about their time in the BFNL.
Each club provided memorabilia from uniforms to photos to newspaper articles. Cath Wicks, Jenny Tardiff and Kylie Ellis entertained us with their memories of their time on the netball executive. Including playing on grass courts, undersized courts and who could forget the sloping QEO court marked on the road!!
We celebrated our graduates. Rebecca Bulley has gone from winning the B Grade Best and Fairest Medal in 1998 to a Commonwealth Games Medallist and World Champion. Chloe Watson won the Carol Sing Medal in 2009 and Rising Star in 2011 and is now a member of the Melbourne Vixens and the Australian 21/U Team.
It was great to see so many Betty Thompson medallists, from Irene Klein to Meg Gilbert and many in-between, including the dual medallists Carol Sing, Rosanne Gallagher (Walgers), Kris Greene and Tiana Newman.
The BFNL inducted netball's first 300 game Life Member last year, Alisha Chadwick. A further two will be inducted this year, Alicia Cassidy and Katrina Walters.
A certificate of appreciation was presented to our executives from the last 25 years.
