Calivil United knocked from top five

by Nathan Dole

CALIVIL United’s goal of back-to-back senior premierships is in jeopardy after the Demons were knocked out of the top five in Saturday’s 16th round of the Loddon Valley Football Netball League season.

A one-point victory for Pyramid Hill against Calivil United in Saturday’s clash at Mitchell Park had huge upswing for one club and not for the other.

The Bulldogs have sealed the double chance for the finals.

Calivil United led 55-44 at three quarter-time, but the Bulldogs fought back to win 63-62.

Mitch Cheesman played a great game to kick four goals as Tom Sala added three.

The Demons attack was led by Daniel Reid on three.

Pyramid Hill’s best were Adrian Holland, Andrew Dobby, Sala, and Billy Micevski.

Chris Sanders, Jonas Somerville, Levi Moss and Jake Lawry worked hard for Calivil United.

At two rounds to go the sixth-placed Demons face Newbridge at Calivil next Saturday, and then play on Bears Lagoon Serpentine’s turf a week later.

The run for the Bears is an away game at Bridgewater, and then home against the Demons.

Bears Lagoon Serpentine is fifth again after a 65-point win at home against Inglewood.

Cody Gunn booted six goals and James Rippingale added four in a 141-76 victory.

Best of the Blues attack was Sam Barnes on four.

Jasper Walker-Corbet starred for the Bears as Brayden Sheahan, Kalem Paxton and Lachlan Murley also figured in the best.

Ryan McNish, Tate Mifka, Sani Egan, and Barnes played well for Inglewood.

Newbridge put an end to Bridgewater’s finals hopes in their clash at Riverside Park.

The Maroons led 33-0 at quarter-time and held a 26-point buffer at the long break.

Bridgewater worked hard, but Newbridge had all the answers on the way to a 13.10 (88) to 7.8 (50) result.

The in-form Jordan Gilboy kicked three goals for Newbridge as Tommy Horne, Tyler Romeril, Zach Heaslip and Alex Farrow led the way.

Bridgewater’s best were Peter Rothacker, Joseph Mayes, Harry Symons and Lachlan Mangan.

A six-goal haul by Dylan Clohesy and five goals by Ryan Wellington were among the highs for Mitiamo in a 148-56 win at Marong.

Sam Harvey was Marong’s only multiple goalkicker on two.

Aaron McKean, James Rozynski, Isaac Mathewson and Matthew Grant starred for Mitiamo.

Best for the Panthers were Zac Turnbull, Cameron Ross, Harvey, and Patrick Ryan.

Maiden Gully YCW Eagles had the bye.

In next Saturday’s action, Calivil United plays Newbridge; Inglewood faces Marong; Bridgewater tackles Bears Lagoon Serpentine; and Maiden Gully YCW Eagles meet Pyramid Hill in the match of the day.

Mitiamo has the bye.

Loddon Valley FNL senior footy ladder:

Newbridge 48 points, 149 per cent; Maiden Gully YCW Eagles 44, 134; Pyramid Hill 40, 101; Mitiamo 32, 114; Bears Lagoon Serpentine 28, 126; Calivil United 28, 122; Bridgewater 24, 108; Marong 8, 60; Inglewood 4, 45.
