Thunder rolls to big win at Tigerland

BENDIGO Thunder’s winning streak rolled on in Sunday’s 11th round of  the Central Victoria Football League women’s competition.

Thunder kicked 15 goals and kept Kyneton scoreless in the Champions IGA-backed league clash at Tigerland in the Kyneton Showgrounds.

Ebony Whiley led Thunder’s attack on four goals as Molly Metcalf, Jaime Sawers and Chloe Vella chipped in with two apiece.

There were nine goalkickers in Bendigo Thunder’s seventh win of the season.

Thunder’s best were Whiley, Crystal West, Sarah Moerke and Beppina Marshall.

Shannon White, Teagan Ainslie, Emily Gibson and Jennifer Schellekens worked hard for Kyneton.

Kangaroo Flat played well on Strathfieldsaye’s turf at Tannery Lane to score a 58-point victory.

The Roos defence did a great job to keep Storm goalless in the 8.12 (60) to 0.2 (2) result.

Lily McNair capped a best afield performance with five goals as Ella Wicks, Eilish Cumming and Bonnie Chapman played well for the Roos.

Storm’s best were Angela Gamble, Morgan McQualter, Rhian Moresi and Laura Fraser.

North Bendigo had the bye.

Because of this Sunday’s women’s footy gala at the QEO, the CVFL women’s league’s home and away series takes a break this weekend.

The season resumes on Sunday, July 22 when Bendigo Thunder takes on North Bendigo in the clash of the top two at Weeroona Oval from noon.

Kyneton hosts Strathfieldsaye at Tigerland, aka Kyneton Showgrounds from 2.30pm.

Kangaroo Flat has the bye.

Central Victoria Football League women’s ladder after 11 rounds:

Bendigo Thunder 36 points, 179 per cent; North Bendigo 20, 72; Strathfieldsaye 16, 45; Kangaroo Flat 12, 82; Kyneton 4, 27.
