Demons turn up heat at Newbridge’s Riverside Park

by Nathan Dole

CALIVIL United will take the heat to Newbridge’s Riverside Park for this Saturday’s 10th round of A-grade netball action in the Bendigo Bank Loddon Valley Football Netball League.

The fourth-placed Demons are aiming to upset a top-three team as the second half of the season begins.

Newbridge will have home-court advantage at Bendigo Locksmith Riverside Park.

A high-scoring match between the Maroons and Demons in the first round at Calivil ended in a 60-52 victory for Newbridge.

Since then the Maroons have gone on a 5-2 run.

Newbridge’s defeats have been at home.

The Maroons’ round three clash with Mitiamo ended in a nine-goal defeat, and the unbeaten Bridgewater reigned supreme by six goals in round seven.

It’s consecutive home games for Newbridge which won last Saturday’s clash with Pyramid Hill by 50 goals.

Calivil United was in great form as it scored a 35-goal win against Inglewood at Raywood.

A high of the Demons season was the nine-goal win on Mitiamo’s court at John Forbes Oval in round six which followed a one-goal loss at home to Maiden Gully YCW the previous round.

Play its best netball and Calivil United is a great chance of taking the points, but Newbridge will be just as desperate to mark three wins in a row.

Another big match will be at John Forbes Oval in Mitiamo where the Superoos host Maiden Gully YCW Eagles.

It’s third against fifth.

Since a two-goal loss at home to Newbridge in round six, Maiden Gully YCW has won its past three hit-outs.

Mitiamo won the first-round clash on the Eagles’ court by 17 goals and will be confident of victory at home.

It’s first against ninth as Bridgewater hosts Pyramid Hill at Laser Plumbing Bendigo Oval.

The Mean Machine scored a 20-goal win at Pyramid Hill in round one and should motor to victory again.

It could be a closely-fought contest between Marong and Inglewood at Discover Marong Oval in Malone Park.

The round one showdown at Searle Bros Oval in Inglewood ended in an 11-goal win by Marong as the Blues marked their return to A-grade action.

An Inglewood victory would put the Blues level on two wins with Marong.

Stronger defence will be a key for Inglewood which has conceded scores of 60, 77 and 78 goals in its past three games.

Marong will be keen to bounce back from a 15-goal loss to the Superoos.

Bears Lagoon Serpentine has the bye.

Loddon Valley FNL A-grade netball ladder:

Bridgewater 163 per cent, 32 points; Newbridge 133, 24; Mitiamo 131, 24; Calivil United 132, 20; Maiden Gully YCW Eagles 109, 20; Bears Lagoon Serpentine 78, 12; Marong 76, 8; Inglewood 61, 4; Pyramid Hill 61, 0.
