Dragons fire in victory against Bloods

SANDHURST capped a great fightback as it beat South Bendigo in Sunday’s 14th round of the Bendigo Junior Football League’s under-16 seniors competition.

The Dragons faced an 11-point deficit at quarter-time, but had gained a three-point lead by half-time of the match in the  IGA and Cavalier Homes-backed league.

South Bendigo struck back to win the third term, 15-6, but it was the Dragons who fired in the last to complete an 8.6 (54) to 7.6 (48) victory.

Best for Sandhurst were Noah Walsh, Brodie Hartland, Cooper Smith and Conor O’Farrell.

Wil McCaig, James Tyack, Thomas St Clair and Isaac Carracher played well for South Bendigo.

Golden Square won a closely-fought contest with White Hills, 79-69.

The Demons held an 11-point lead at three quarter-time, but the Bulldogs scored 5.4 to 2.1 in the last to take the points.

Jack Ginnivan kicked six goals for Golden Square.

Best for the Bulldogs were Will Beagley, Brodie James, Zach Morrison and Hamish Wall.

The Demons’ best were Ethan Arnold, Callum Stewart, Mitch McConnell and Gabe Schembri.

In other matches, Strathfieldsaye Storm scored a 96-33 win against Eaglehawk, and Kangaroo Flat defeated Castlemaine, 91-36.

Kyneton had the bye.

The second-last round in the home and away series will be played this Sunday.

Eaglehawk takes on Kangaroo Flat at Canterbury Park; Castlemaine plays Strathfieldsaye at Camp Reserve; Kyneton tackles Sandhurst at Kyneton Showgrounds; and South Bendigo faces Golden Square at Harry Trott Oval.

White Hills has the bye.
