Likely elimination final preview on Maiden Gully YCW’s court

by Nathan Dole

HEADED toward a likely elimination final in A-grade netball, Maiden Gully YCW Eagles and Calivil United clash in Saturday’s 14th round of the Bendigo Bank Loddon Valley Football Netball League’s season.

The Eagles have home-court advantage when fifth takes on fourth at Marist College Oval in Maiden Gully.

In round five, Maiden Gully YCW scored a 50-49 victory at 5 Star Stockfeeds Oval in Calivil.

After a bye, the Eagles will be keen to be back on court and chasing a seventh win.

The task will not be easy against a Calivil United line-up which played well to be within six goals of Bridgewater when the final whistle sounded last round.

Inglewood will be confident of chalking up its third victory in its comeback season to the top grade when it hosts Pyramid Hill at Searle Bros Oval.

The Blues broke a long-running winless streak when they beat Pyramid Hill by two goals at Mitchell Park in round five.

Pyramid Hill worked hard to finish within 10 goals of Marong last Saturday, while Inglewood struggled against Newbridge.

The ladder-leading Bridgewater should mark a 13th consecutive victory when it hosts Bears Lagoon Serpentine at Laser Plumbing Bendigo Oval in Bridgewater.

An 11-goal defeat at home to Bridgewater in the fifth round was one of the Bears best performances this season.

Newbridge should be too strong for Marong at Bendigo Locksmith Riverside Park.

The Marong Panthers clawed their way to a 10-goal win at Pyramid Hill last round, but the Maroons are likely to be too strong in all thirds of the court.

Mitiamo has the bye.

Standings in the Loddon Valley FNL A-grade netball competition:

Bridgewater 161 per cent, 48 points; Mitiamo 144, 40; Newbridge 138, 32; Calivil United 129, 28; Maiden Gully YCW Eagles 111, 24; Bears Lagoon Serpentine 72, 16; Marong 74, 12; Inglewood 60, 8; Pyramid Hill 57, 0.
