Maiden Gully fights to grab fifth rung

by Nathan Dole

MAIDEN Gully YCW’s fight to grab fifth place on the A-grade netball ladder rolls on in this Saturday’s 15th round of the Loddon Valley FNL season.

The Eagles played brilliant netball to upstage the highly-fancied Bridgewater in last week’s clash on the Marist College court.

A 46-45 victory was Maiden Gully YCW’s best of the season and kept the heat on the fifth-placed Pyramid Hill.

The Eagles and Pyramid Hill are locked on seven wins apiece, but the red, white and blue has a percentage buffer of just under three.

In round 15, Maiden Gully YCW takes on the third-placed Calivil United at Raywood.

The Demons scored a 56-32 win against the Eagles in the sixth round.

Stung by last Saturday’s loss, Bridgewater will be determined to bounce back at home against Pyramid Hill.

The second-placed Bridgwater scored a 13-goal victory in the lastest showdown between the clubs.

Mitiamo should improve its win-loss tally to 12-2 when it takes on Bears Lagoon Serpentine.

The A-grade players from Newbridge have a rest because of a forfeit by Inglewood.

Marong has the bye.

Loddon Valley FNL A-grade netball ladder:

Mitiamo 44 points, 128 per cent; Bridgewater 38, 137; Calivil United 36, 132; Newbridge 30, 106; Pyramid Hill 28, 109; Maiden Gully YCW 28, 106; Marong 16, 73; Bears Lagoon Serpentine 4, 43.
