Maiden Gully YCW stitches up finals spot

by Nathan Dole

A SIX-GOAL victory at home has put Maiden Gully YCW into the A-grade finals in the Loddon Valley Football Netball League.

The Eagles took on Pyramid Hill in Saturday’s 17th round at Marist Oval in Maiden Gully.

There was plenty at stake for both clubs.

A determined Maiden Gully YCW clinched a 42-36 victory and is four points clear of Pyramid Hill which has the bye in the final round of the home and away series.

Since round 10, Maiden Gully’s tally is four wins, two defeats, and a forfeit by Inglewood.

Highs for the Eagles in that run include a one-goal win against Bridgewater, and a two-goal loss to the ladder-leading Mitiamo.

Maiden Gully YCW is back home this Saturday to take on Newbridge in what will be a preview to their elimination final showdown a week later.

In other round 17 matches, Bridgewater scored a 52-goal win against Bears Lagoon Serpentine.

Strong defence was a key to Bridgewater’s play as the Bears were held to just 15 goals.

Calivil United scored a 60-30 win against Newbridge at Calivil.

Inglewood forfeited the A-grade match to Marong.

Mitiamo had the bye.

In this Saturday’s play, Bears Lagoon Serpentine hosts Calivil United, Marong plays Bridgewater at Malone Park, and Mitiamo has another rest in A-grade because of Inglewood’s forfeit.

Pyramid Hill has the bye.

Loddon Valley FNL A-grade netball ladder:
