Mass Nutrition Cup to Kick Off the Women’s Season

In an exciting initiative, the Champions IGA Central Victorian Football League Women’s and the MBCM Northern Country Women’s League will come together to contest the Mass Nutrition Cup on Sunday 15 April at Rochester Recreation Reserve.

Both Women’s League competitions will join forces for the new pre-season competition as a chance to get some valuable match practise and pit their skills against each other in readiness for the start of the 2018 season.

AFL Central Victoria Regional General Manager, Carol Cathcart, welcomed the initiative and is looking forward to this new tournament getting underway.

“With the success of the inaugural MBCM Northern Country Women’s League season last year and the subsequent splitting of our partnership with AFL Goulburn Murray to create our standalone Champions IGA Central Victorian Football League Women’s, we wanted to provide an opportunity to maintain the relationship by having a pre season tournament”.

“The competition will feature four of the five teams from the newly created Central Victorian Football League Women’s and the seven MBCM NCWL teams.”

“Games will be fast and furious to allow for more squad members to participate and also for teams to come up against as many other teams over the course of the day.”

“It will also be the debut of our two new clubs Kangaroo Flat and Strathfieldsaye who will join our returning clubs, Kyneton and North Bendigo, who will be looking to build on their performances from last season. Bendigo Thunder elected not to participate in the event.”

“The event will be a great way for teams to have a solid hit out and get some important game time in before the full season commences on 29 April.”

The preseason competition will see 11 teams compete in a one day round robin event.
