Mitiamo Superoos bound way to Loddon Valley footy grand final

THE Mitiamo Superoos have bounded their way to the Bendigo Bank Loddon Valley Football Netball League’s senior footy grand final.

It was a super performance by Mitiamo in Saturday’s preliminary final against Maiden Gully YCW Eagles at Discover Marong Oval in Malone Park, Marong.

The Andy Grant-coached Mitiamo was on a six-game winning streak as it faced the Wayne Mitrovic-coached Eagles for a place in the grand final of the Poyser Trucks Bendigo-backed finals series.

Maiden Gully YCW led 33-28 at quarter-time, but Mitiamo fought to lead 42-41 at the long break.

By three quarter-time the Eagles were back in front, 71-66.

Both teams had already played three finals, but it was Mitiamo which had faced elimination each time which finished strongly.

The Superoos slammed on 7.8 to 1.3 in the final term to seal a 16.20 (116) to 12.8 (80) victory.

Key forward Ryan Wellington added to a brilliant finals campaign by kicking seven goals for the winners.

James Rozynski and Luke Scott added two goals apiece as Dylan Clohesy, Jackson Falls, Michael I’Anson, Isaac Mathewson and Terence Reeves were on target.

The Eagles attack was led by Cohen Kekich on six goals.

Sean Moyle and Ryan Walker added two each as Matt Higgs and Wayne Mitrovic also kicked a goal.

Best afield was James Rozynski as Terence Reeves, Max Simpson, Nic Farley, Jarryd Wiegard and Matt Trewhella starred for Mitiamo.

The Eagles’ best were Bailey Graham, Cohen Kekich, Sean Moyle, Matt Higgs, Nic Waterson and Clinton Angove.

Mitiamo now tackles Newbridge in Saturday’s grand final at Bridgewater.

The last team to beat the Superoos was Newbridge by eight points in round 14 at Adroit Insurance Group Riverside Oval.

Pyramid Hill will feature in the reserves and under-18s grand finals.

The Bulldogs withstood a spirited fightback from Newbridge to win the preliminary final by five points.

A great contest ended 9.6 (60) to 8.7 (55) in Pyramid Hill’s favour.

Mitchell Dingwall and Jack Hickmott were the Bulldogs’ multiple goalkickers on two.

Newbridge’s attack was led by Chris Lakey, three, and David Carroll, two.

Best for Pyramid Hill were Jack Hickmott, Gervase Birt, Nathan Moon, Dylan Tonkin, Ross James and Connor Gibbins.

Jarrod Parry, Aidan Moore, Chris Lakey, Tim Zabilowicz, Thomas Wilson and Chris Belz worked hard for the Maroons.

In the under-18s clash, Pyramid Hill led 47-14 at three quarter-time.

The Marong Panthers fought the game out, but the Bulldogs led 7.8 (50) to 3.5 (23) at the final siren.

Reece Blake led Pyramid Hill’s attack on three goals.

Will Gadsden booted two goasl for the Panthers.

Best for Pyramid Hill were Connor Mayman, Coen Cooper, Jordan Godfrey, Lachlan Dillon, Mitchell Stephens and Reece Blake.

Marong’s best were Jimmy Gadsden, Will Cornish, Lachlan Lee, Harry Taylor, Dylan Lee and Liam Giofrelle.

Saturday’s grand finals at Laser Plumbing Bendigo Oval, Bridgewater:

Seniors at 2.15pm: Newbridge v Mitiamo.

Reserves at 12.30pm: Bridgewater v Pyramid Hill.

Under-18s at 10.50am: Maiden Gully YCW Eagles v Pyramid Hill.
