AFL Central Victoria is pleased to announce our involvement in the Responsible Gambling Awareness Week. As part of our involvement we will be hosting an End of Season Network Event with Brent Guerra on Friday 16th October from 4.30-6.00pm at the Bendigo Club.
Brent Guerra, is an RGAW (Responsible Gambling Awareness Week) champion and former AFL footballer for Hawthorn, Port Adelaide and St Kilda, and a two-time Premiership player. Brent began his career at Port Adelaide in 2000 and was known as a dangerous winger/forward. After spending three years at the club Guerra wanted to return to home soil and was traded to St Kilda. At the end of 2005 Guerra was moved from St Kilda only to be picked up by Hawthorn to add experience to a very young Hawthorn group. Guerra was a key part of Hawthorn’s successful premierships in 2008 and 2013. He announced his retirement two weeks after the 2013 grand final wanting to pursue a coaching career. Guerra is one of only a handful of retired players who were a part of the successful Hawthorn premiership era. Brent has recently revealed how a gambling addiction cost him an estimated $400,000 over four years. Guerra hasn’t had a punt since January and now wants to use his personal story to speak about the importance of gambling responsibly.
The cost of the event has been kept to a minimum, for only $10, as well as hearing Brent Guerra, drinks will be provided from 4.30-5.00pm and then available at bar prices, nibbles will also be provided.
