Sandhurst fires up against red-hot Kangaroos

by Nathan Dole

SANDHURST will be fired up for Saturday’s A-grade netball preliminary final against Bendigo Bank Bendigo Football Netball League rival Kangaroo Flat on the QEO court.

For just the second time this season, Sandhurst is on the rebound from defeat as it fights to keep premiership hopes alive.

The Roos have shown plenty of spirit and great form in the finals series.

Kangaroo Flat’s 20-goal victory in the elimination final ended Golden Square’s season.

Last week the Roos played superb netball under the QEO lights to win the first semi-final against Eaglehawk by 11 goals.

Top of the ladder at the end of the home and away series, Sandhurst had a rest in the first week of the finals series and then took on Gisborne in the second semi-final.

It was Gisborne which was first to the September 22 grand final as the red, white and blue scored a 57-45 victory.

Based on the previous meetings between the Dragons and Kangaroos, fans can expect another high-scoring contest.

Sandhurst won the round three match at the QEO, 47-44.

The next contest between the clubs in the 12th round ended in a 56-all on the Kangaroos court at Dower Park

The Tamara Gilchrist-coached Sandhurst was the dominant team in the regular season.

Sandhurst achieved a win-loss record of 12-1, a draw, and almost hit the 900 goal mark.

The Jayden Cowling-coached Kangaroo Flat was 8-5-1 and in fourth place at the end of the home and away series.

Sandhurst is the reigning A-grade premier, and Kangaroo Flat won the 2016 grand final.

A great run by the Roos in recent seasons includes the 2014 A-grade premiership.

First of the netball preliminary finals is at 10.40am when Kangaroo Flat plays Gisborne in the under-17s match.

Golden Square takes on Strathfieldsaye in the B-reserve contest at noon.

The B-grade final between Golden Square and Kangaroo Flat starts at 1.20pm.

Sandhurst and Kyneton do battle in the A-reserve match from 2.40pm.

The A-grade clash between Sandhurst and Kangaroo Flat starts at 4pm.
