Demons raise heat in fight to be fifth

CALIVIL United kept the heat on Newbridge as the fight to be fifth in the Bendigo Bank Loddon Valley FNL senior footy action rages on.

The Anthony Dennis-coached Calivil United scored a 76-63 victory in last Saturday’s round 16 clash at Inglewood’s Centre State Scaffolding Oval.

A fired-up Demons team won a hard-fought contest on the Blues’ turf.

Ben Baker was in hot form as he kicked four goals for Calivil United as Anthony Dennis kicked two.

Inglewood’s attack was led by Will Allen (guernsey one) on four majors as coach Fergus Payne kicked two.

Best for the Demons were Sam Maher, Cody Thompson, Lewis Fisher, Sam Green, Ben Baker and Hamish Wall.

Callum March, Fergus Payne, Luke Matheson, Lachlan Ford, Will Allen (#1) and Seb Erharter played well for the Blues.

Newbridge battled to stop Pyramid Hill’s slick teamwork and powerful attack at Walker’s Doughnuts Riverside Oval in Newbridge.

The Nathan Fitzpatrick-coached Pyramid Hill led 34-13 at quarter-time and then slammed on seven goals as it kept the Maroons to a tally of two points in the second.

Zach Alford went on to kick a match-high four goals as Brodie Carroll, Bailey George, Steven Gunther and Bailey Scott capitalised on their team’s dominance to kick three goals each.

At the final siren Pyramid Hill led 150-35.

There were no multiple goalkickers for Newbridge.

Best for the Bulldogs were Bailey George, Ben Knight, Steven Gunther, Lachlan Sidebottom, Gavin James and Scott Mann.

Tyler McLeod, Kobe Friswell, Tyler Constable, Brandon Dimech, Brodie Carr and Lachie Costelow worked hard for the Sam Gale and Daniel Smith-coached Newbridge.

Gun forwards Kain Robins and Ryley Taylor kicked six and five goals as Marong marked a 190-7 win against Maiden Gully YCW Eagles at East West Oval in Marong’s Malone Park.

The Linton Jacobs-coached Marong led 43-nil at quarter-time and 106-nil by half-time.

The Eagles goaled through Declan Phyland in the third term.

Marong again showed it has plenty of attacking options as Kyle Manley finished on four goals, Michael Bradbury added three and Jonty Davis kicked two.

Best for the Panthers were Jonty Davis, Todd Davies, Kain Robins, Ryley Taylor, Will Gadsden and Michael Bradbury.

Josh Worsley, Ed Crisp, Declan Phyland, Ryan Strauch, Bryce Franzini and Lachie Sobina were best for the Shawn Filo and Angus Monfries-coached Eagles.

Bears-Lagoon Serpentine scored a big win against Mitiamo at Gadsden Finance Serpentine Reserve.

The Jake Wilkinson-coached Bears charged to a 45-nil lead by quarter-time.

The second quarter was Mitiamo’s best as it scored two goals through Liam Shiell and Kyle Pentreath and held the Bears to a tally of 2.3.

After half-time it was the Bears who slammed on 20 goals and kept the Superoos scoreless.

Justin Laird dominated in the Bears attack to finish with nine goals in the 196-12 victory and earn best on ground honours.

Other multiple goalkickers for BLS were James Rippingale, seven; Miggy Podosky, three; Charlie Gadsden, Nash Kemp, Farran Priest and Ross Turner, two.

Best for the Bears were Justin Laird, Doolan Nihill, James Rippingale, Nash Kemp, Josh Taig and Nathan Twigg.

Luke Lougoon, Zach Morrison, Daniel Walters, Ryan Duncan, Waylon Draper and Liam Shiell played well for the Jon Varcoe-coached Mitiamo.

Bridgewater had the bye.

The clash between Calivil United and Newbridge at Calivil highlights next Saturday’s round 17 action.

Maiden Gully YCW will be at home against Bears-Lagoon Serpentine at Marist College Bendigo.

Mitiamo takes on Bridgewater on the Superoos’ ground at Mitiamo’s John Forbes Oval.

Pyramid Hill and Inglewood clash at Pyramid Hill’s Mitchell Park.
