Moulamein climbs off bottom rung

MOULAMEIN moved off the bottom rung of the senior footy ladder as it beat Murrabit in Saturday’s 15th round in the Golden Rivers season.

The Swans from Moulamein capped the trek to Murrabit by scoring a 38-point victory against the Blues.

Down by 10 points at half-time, Moulamein struck back to level scores by three quarter-time.

After winning the third term, 13-3, Moulamein’s run kept rolling.

The Swans slammed on six goals in the last and kept the Blues scoreless.

At the final siren Moulamein led 80-42 as players and fans celebrated a third win of the season.

Swans’ captain Morgan Tuvery led the attack on three goals as Xander Hartland, Lochlan Prentice and James White added two.

Murrabit’s leading goalkicker was Patrick Bryan on two.

Best for Moulamein were Morgan Turvey, James White, Hunter and Xander Hartland, Kaylem Hartley and Ethan Fitzpatrick.

The Blues’ best were Dean Harrop, Nathan O’Toole, Josh Bray, Sam and Tom Copland, and Ashton Wood.

A 10-goal blitz in the opening quarter set up Ultima’s win at home against Macorna.

The Kangaroos scored 10.4 and held the Tigers to a goal in the first term.

A closely-fought second quarter went Ultima’s way, 28-24.

Five goals to a point in the third by Ultima was followed by winning the last, 26-14.

Ryan Devereux kicked 12 goals as the Kangaroos marked a 158-45 victory.

Other multiple goalkickers for Ultima were Jay Reynolds, three; Corey Grey and Ricky Wild, two.

Macorna’s attack was led by Jordan Simpson with two.

Best for Ultima were Ryan Devereux, Ryan Featherby, Jamie Nicholas, Mitchell Seton-Stewart, Jay Reynolds and Cameron Johnson.

Hunter Anset, Blake Forster, Reegan O’Rourke, Kurt Forder, Jordan Simpson and Lachlan Thompson were best for the Tigers.

The Lions from Hay took charge in the second half of the clash on Wandella’s turf.

Hay led 45-39 at half-time and then scored 5.2 as it held the Bombers to a tally of two goals in the third quarter.

The Lions then slammed on 7.8 and kept the red and black scoreless in the last term as it completed a 127-51 victory.

A 10-goal haul by Declan Watson earned best on ground honours as Jack Headon chipped in with five goals.

Michael Rowe and Darren Rushton kicked two goals for Wandella.

Best for Hay were Declan Watson, Nathan Wilson, Jacob Watson, Jack Cattanach, Brad Pocock and Jack Headon.

Darren Rushton, John Cooper, Ryan Lancaster, Jonty Taylor, Tim Robinson and Logan Keighran played well for Wandella.

Golden Rivers senior footy ladder:

Hay 313 per cent, 56 points; Ultima 233, 52; Wandella 82, 28; Macorna 60, 20; Moulamein 59, 12; Murrabit 50, 12.

The 16th and final round in the home-and-away series will be played next Saturday.

Hay will be at home to face Murrabit.

Moulamein takes on Ultima at the home of the Swans.

Macorna hosts Wandella in the clash of the Tigers and Bombers.
