MANY of the placegetters in this season’s Bendigo Bank Heathcote DFNL netball fairest and best awards are still in the hunt for premiership glory.
The A-reserve champion player of ’23, Abbey Hay will be on court this Saturday as Elmore takes on North Bendigo in the preliminary final at Huntly’s Strauch Resrve.
Hay polled 22 votes across the home-and-away series to claim the league medal as Colbinabbin’s Emily Percy was runner-up on 21.
Mount Pleasant’s Audrey Gargiulo took out the B-grade fairest and best award on 22 votes as Huntly’s Jenna Barker was next best on 19.
It was a double for the Blues as Mount Pleasant’s Lara Bish won a closely-fought contest in B-reserve.
After the final card was called, Bish led on 25 votes from Huntly’s Simone Corboy on 23.
In the weekend’s finals action, Mount Pleasant was beaten in the first semi clash with North Bendigo by five goals.
Corboy and her Hawks’ team-mates will feature on their home court in this Saturday’s preliminary final against North Bendigo.
Colbinabbin’s Grace McIntyre and Heathcote’s Telani Bibby capped great seasons to lead the 17-under award on 34 and 30 votes.
McIntyre and her team-mates are through to the September 16 grand final after a win by the green and gold against Lockington Bamawm United in the second semi.
Lockington Bamawm United’s young stars shone in the 15-under and 13-under divisions.
A tally of 27 votes earned LBU’s Candace Major the 15-under award as Mount Pleasant’s Tarli Nihill was runner-up on 26.
A one-goal victory by Mounts in the second semi against Elmore has put Nihill and her team-mates into the grand final.
In the 13-under award, Taya Tamblyn capped a great season with the LBU Cats to poll 30 votes.
Next best were Leitchville Gunbower team-mates Sadie Jones and Milla Ryan on 25 and 24 votes.
The rising stars from Lockington Bamawm United are into the grand final after a 34-13 win against Heathcote in the second semi-final.
