CVFL Under 18’s Round 14 Review

Demons fire up to outplay Storm

STUNG by its first defeat in ’24 the previous round the Winslow White Hills Demons bounced back brilliantly in Sunday’s 14th round of the Champions IGA-backed CVFL under-18 girls footy competition.

White Hills made its way to Triple M Park in Strathfieldsaye Tannery Lane to take on Strathfieldsaye in the clash between first and third.

The Demons charged to a 39-nil lead by quarter-time.

Although Storm hit back to win the second, 15-10, it was White Hills which had gained a 40-point lead by three quarter-time after it scored 1.10 to nil in the third.

Nadia Peebles went on to kick a match-high five goals as captain Eve Cail, Lily Rochester and Tayla Stringer also goaled.

A sign of the Demons’ dominance was the tally of scoring shots.

At the final siren the red and black 8.22 (70) to 2.4 (16).

Goalkickers for Storm were Alysha Boyd and Tessa Skipper.

Best for White Hills were Nadia Peebles, Ruby Hilson, Amelie Haigh, Ella Watkins, Jorja Morrison and Imogen McLarty.

Strathfieldsaye’s best were Layla Morrison, Molly Manton, Mikayla Davis, Tessa Skipper, Scarlett Ward and Jade Bateson.

Upset of Sunday’s play was at Bendigo’s Ewing Park where Sandhurst beat Woorinen by 26 points.

A week after it broke the unbeaten run by White Hills, Woorinen could not halt the Dragons’ charge to a 48-22 victory.

Sandhust led 5-1 at quarter-time and then scored three goals as it kept the Tigers scoreless in the second term.

The Tigers fought on to win the third, 9-6, but it was Sandhurst which won the last, 19-12, to complete a 48-22 victory.

Goalkickers for the maroon and blue were Amelia Grist and Charlotte Scanlon, two; Eryn McManus, Ryah Mackie and Alannah Prowse.

Woorinen’s attack was led by Grace Ayars, Ruby Butler and Meg Young.

Best for Sandhurst were Eilish Grieve, Mia Maxted, Neve Pinner, Amelia Grist, Charlotte Scanlon and Alannah Prowse.

Meg Young, Eva Coffey, Carly Shepherd, Madison Johnston, Emilie Ward and Grace Ayars played well for Woorinen.

The round kicked off with Friday night’s match between Castlemaine and Eaglehawk at Castlemaine’s Camp Reserve.

The Magpies led 12-9 at quarter-time and then scored 3.2 to a behind in the second.

It was a closely-fought third term which went the Maine’s way, three-two.

Castlemaine added seven behinds in the last as the Borough scored a point.

At the final siren the Magpies led 42-13.

Goalkickers for Castlemaine were Maddyson Hewson and Olivia Muscat, two; and Lori Whaley.

The Hawks’ goals was off the boot of Tahlia Thorpe.

Best for the Magpies were Piper Marshall, Lori Whaley, Shania and Shelby Kitchingham, Edie Whitesmith and Olivia Muscat.

Taylor Collier, Jasmine Gowty, Tahlia Thorpe, Zoe Hodgskiss, Imogen Wilson and Jamieson Brown played well for the Hawks.

Golden Square had the bye.

Round 15 kicks off with two matches on Friday night.

Golden Square plays White Hills at Fur Life Oval in Golden Square’s Wade Street from 5.30pm.

Eaglehawk takes on Sandhurst on the Borough’s ground from 6.15pm in Cantebury Park.

On Sunday it will be Castlemaine against Woorinen from 11.30pm at Castlemaine’s Camp Reserve.

Strathfieldsaye has the bye.
