Eagles soar to victory against Demons

MALLEE Eagles soared to a 13-point victory against Nyah Nyah West United in Saturday’s 15th round in the Radio 3SH-backed Central Murray senior footy season.

The 85-72 result for Mallee at Lalbert pushed the NNWU Demons from top spot on the ladder.

Nyah Nyah West United led 21-16 at quarter-time, but the Brent Macleod-coached Eagles struck back to win the second term, 33-17.

A tally of 3.3 as it kept NNWU to a score of 1.2 in the third gave Mallee a four-goal buffer going into the final quarter.

The Jason Murphy and Nick O’Neill-coached Demons finished strongly to win the term, 26-15, but it was the Eagles which took the points in an 85-72 result.

Darcy Hourigan led Mallee’s attack on four goals as Shaun Harrison and Jai Middleton added two each.

Zac O’Shannassy was the Demons’ only multiple goalkicker on two.

Best for Mallee Eagles were Paul Davis, Jayden Post, Joe Halloran, Liam Drummond, Brent Macleod and Clinton Cummins.

Oliver Boulton, Dominic Gallo, Max Thompson, Blake Larkings, Mitch Grinham and Darcy Butler led the way for the Demons.

A great run by the Cohuna Kangas kept rolling against Tooleybuc Manangatang at Manangatang.

The Kangas won 115-6 and in the process climbed to the fifth rung.

Cohuna led 10-2 at quarter-time in the Saints’ home and then slammed on 9.4 as it kept the hosts scoreless in the second term.

Inspired by the play of Sam McGlone, coach Jack Geary and co-captain Joel Helman, Cohuna scored 6.11 in the second half.

The Kangas worked incredibly hard to keep the Saints goalless as the scoreboard read 16.19 (115) to 0.6 (6) at the final siren.

Jacob Mitchell and Jackson Williams led the Kangas’ attack on three goals as Daniel Coates, co-captain Jarrod Findlay, Jack Geary and Izaac Johnson booted two each.

Best for Cohuna included Jackson Williams, Chris Anderson and Daniel Coates.

Ryan Domaille, John Wardle, Jaicob Kenny, Mitchell Grant, Zach Prentice and Connor McDonald were best on a tough afternoon for the Brad Morris-coached Saints.

Tyntynder achieved an upset win against Balranald at Swan Hill’s Alan Garden Reserve.

The Jack O’Rourke-coached Tyntynder scored four straight goals in the first as Balranald was on 1.5 at the first break.

The Kangaroos lifted their play to win the second term, 27-16.

Tyntynder added 4.3 and kept the Roos to a tally of two goals in the third quarter.

Balranald lifted to win the last, 20-19, but it was Tyntynder which marked an 86-75 victory against last season’s runner-up.

Jason Eagle dominated in the Bulldogs’ attack to kick six goals as Jayden Magro booted three.

Leading goalkicker for the Kangaroos was Lachlan Lellman on three.

Tyntynder’s best were Isaiah Bull, Mick Dedini, Jason Eagle, Matt Gilbee, Brock Storer and Matt King.

Jaxon Neagle, Kobe Lloyd, Ian Fuller, Lachlan Lellman, Harrison Soraggi and Ryan Middlebrook were best for the Jydon Neagle-coached Kangaroos.

Kerang jumped to top of the ladder after a 20-point victory at Woorinen.

The Troy Coates-coached Blues led 40-33 at half-time and then scored 4.5 to 1.2 in the crucial third quarter.

Woorinen fought on to win the last, 25-17, but it was the premier of the past two seasons which led 86-66 at the final siren.

Troy Coates and Thomas Hetherington kicked two goals each for Kerang.

Woorinen’s attack was led by Jye Barry on three as Will Collicoat kicked two majors.

Best for Kerang were Bradlee Pay, Jesse Clark, Josh Nitschke, Martin Kelly, Lachlan Ross and ruckman Nick Lang.

Jye Barry, Taylor Cameron, Lachlan Warburton, Blake Reid, Matt Gardner and Henry Thompson were best for the Marcus Demaria-coached Tigers.

Lake Boga fought on for a three-goal win against Koondrook Barham at Barham.

A closely-fought first half ended with  Lake Boga in front, 36-32.

The Dean Helmers-coached Lake Boga scored 2.6 to 1.4 in the third term.

Led by Josh Wills, Dylan McCosh and David Gourdis, Lake Boga won the last term, 14-8, to complete a 68-50 victory.

David Gourdis led the Magpies’ attack on three goals as Koben Ryan kicked two.

The River Raiders’ leading goalkickers were Kye Attwell, Mitch Christensen and Jordan McKinnon with two.

Best for Lake Boga included Jayden Lonergan, Zac Warne and Koben Ryan.

Kye Attwell, Jack Thrum, Ash Molin, Billy Driscoll, Jack Shannon and Xavier Leonard played well for the Will Callow-coached Koondrook Barham.

Swan Hill had the bye.

Lake Boga clashes with Tyntynder at Lake Boga Sports Club.

Kerang faces Koondrook Barham at Kerang’s Riverside Park.

Nyah Nyah West United meets Tooleybuc Manangatang at Nyah in the battle of the Demons and Saints.

It’s a bye for Balranald, Cohuna Kangas and Woorinen.
