CASTLEMAINE was too strong for Eaglehawk as they kicked off Pride Round for Champions IGA-backed CVFL senior women’s footy on Friday night.
The Jordan Cochrane-coached Castlemaine marked a trek to the Borough by scoring a four-goal victory.
On a cold and wet night at Canterbury Park it was a second-quarter blitz which set up Castlemaine’s victory.
The Magpies led two-one at quarter-time and then added 2.4 as the Borough added two points in the second.
Another goal in the third gave the team in black and white a 22-point buffer going into the last term.
By the final siren Castlemaine led 28-4.
Star forward Eloise Gretrgix slotted two goals for the ladder-leading Magpies as Georgia Gordon was on target.
Best for Castlemaine were Maeve Tupper, Jemma Finning, Eillish Cumming, Tiahna Cochrane, Eloise Gretgrix and Amelia Britt.
Lexie Moss, Abbey Willcox, Grace Edlin, coach Molly Metcalf, Lucy El Hage and Caitlin Evans were Eaglehawk’s best.
Three matches to complete Pride Round were played on Sunday.
The Winslow Constructors White Hills Demons won a closely-fought contest with Marong by 17 points.
Playing on home turf in Scott Street, White Hills led 13-0 at quarter-time.
Marong worked hard to ensure the Demons scored just one more goal across the next three quarters.
Defence was also a key factor for the red and black as it kept Marong goalless in a 22-5 victory.
Goalkickers for White Hills were Georgia Cook, Nadia Peebles and Kadeisha Smith.
Best for the Phil Murley-coached Demons were Nadia Peebles, Sasha Pearce, Sharni Barker, Maiya Pearce, Acacia Edwards and Gabby Speirs.
Kayla Grant, Alicia Turner, Crystal Clark, Nikeah Anderson, Lauren Knight and Taylah Patching played well for Marong.
The Panthers are jointly coached by Jimmy Evenden and Daniel Bourke.
Golden Square was in great form on its turf in Wade Street against Bendigo Thunder.
The Bulldogs led 46-nil at quarter-time.
Thunder’s best quarter was the second as Golden Square was held to a score of 2.3.
From there the blue and gold added 35 points in the third and 27 in the last for a 123-nil result.
Gabby Drage and Maddie Ridsdale led the blue and gold’s attack on three goals each.
Other multiple goalkickers were Molly Forde, co-coach Carly Geary and Gemma Roberts.
The Bulldogs also have Bec McLay as co-coach.
A list of best players for both teams was not supplied.
Bendigo Thunder is coached by Mick McInnes.

The unbeaten Woorinen scored a 53-6 win at home against the Winslow Constructors White Hills Demons.
The Tigers teamed well to score 5.8 and kept the Demons scoreless across the opening three quarters.
Lauren Clarke and Mayla Conway led Woorinen’s attack on two goals each as Sunny Barry, Erin Johnston, Jenna Stewart were also on target.
Layla O’Brien goaled for the red and black in the final quarter.
Best for Woorinen were Meg Young, Mayla Conway, Lauren Clarke, Eva Coffey, Erin Johnston and Chloe Lovell.
Matilda Meersbergen, Jayda Alford, Ella Henery, Madisyn Morrison, Layla O’Brien and Peyton Foley were best for White Hills.
Strathfieldsaye Storm surged to a 15-goal win against Kangaroo Flat at Triple M Park in Strathfieldsaye’s Tannery Lane.
The Storm led 20-nil at quarter-time and added 22, 21 and 28 points across the next three terms on the way to a 91-1 result.

Best for Strathfieldsaye were Scarlett Ward, Chella Fitzgerald, Mikayla Davis and Gemma Fox.
Kangaroo Flat’s best were Abigail Sendy, Eve Conroy, Ava Ahearn, Mieka Szakal and Isla Tyndall.
Golden Square bounced back from defeat the previous round to score a 73-3 win against Eaglehawk on the Bulldogs’ turf in Wade Street.
The Bulldogs led 21-2 at quarter-time and then added three goals as it kept the Two Blues scoreless in the second quarter.
Ruby Demeo went on to boot four goals as Ella Meharry slotted two majors for Golden Square.
Best for Golden Square were Evelyn Williams, Jayde Chappel, Skye Twitt, Lily Mansfield, Abbey Cahill and Ella Gourley.
Eaglehawk’s best were Tia Anderson, Sezin Lees, Gracie Whitfort, Maleah Lawry, Lana Ring and Bobbie Fasham.
