Woorinen Tigers roar in grand victory

THE Woorinen Tigers roared to a 12-goal win against Nyah Nyah West United on Saturday to grab the 3SH premiership cup in Central Murray senior footy.

Beaten just once in the run to the grand final, Woorinen dominated against the reigning premier at Swan Hill.

The NNWU Demons had gone back-to-back way back in 2000 and ’01.

In Saturday’s decider it was the Tim Free-coached Tigers who led 22-8 at quarter-time.

Term two was when the yellow and black broke free.

As Woorinen slammed on eight goals it kept the Demons to a tally of 2.2.

Woorinen held a 51-point lead at half-time.

Both teams scored two goals in the third quarter.

Woorinen won the last, 32-15.

At the final siren the Tigers were up 122-50.

The Tigers’ players, coaches and Army of supporters celebrated a first seniors premiership since 2019 and the 11th in the Central Murray FNL.

Kyle Skene kicked a match-high five goals for Woorinen as Matt Perry added three.

Other multiple goalkickers were Doug Beames and Will Collicoat on two.

Jye Barry, Xavier Johnston, Tom Langford, Jose Miliado, Blake Reid and Lachlan Warburton were also on target for the Tigers.

The Demons’ attack was led by Charlie Boulton and co-coach  Corey Daniels on two goals.

Alex Erlandson, captain Dominic Gallo and Lucas Iduica added a major.

Best for Woorinen were Jye Barry, Matt Gardner, captain Henry Thompson, Kane Reid, Lachlan Gardner and Kyle Skene.

The Demons’ best were Alex Erlandson, Jordan Iudica, Nash Richman, Dominic Gallo, Joel Walsh and Mitch Grinham.

Although bitterly disappointed with the result it was an outstanding effort by the Corey Daniels and Jason Murphy-coached NNWU Demons to fight their way from an elimination final.

There will be more teams hunting the Woorinen Tigers next season as Hay, Moulamein, Murrabit, Ultima and Wandella cross from the Golden Rivers.

Macorna which also in the Rivers league has decided to join the Loddon Valley FNL.

It was a premiership double for Woorinen on Saturday as the reserves marked a 26-point win against Lake Boga.

The Tigers had a 15-1 run across the home-and-series.

On grand final day the Tigers charged to a 55-29 victory.

Jason Iannucci led Woorinen’s attack on three goals as Xavia Elford kicked two.

Ben Hunt and Joseph Kelly were also on target for the yellow and black.

Goalkickers for Lake Boga were Charlie Bryan, Harry Bull, and captain Jayden Trebilcock.

Woorinen’s best were Adam Hendy, Lachie Martin, Matthew Iannucci, Jake Butler, Ben Hunt and Jason Iannucci.

Harry Bull, Jake Hepburn, Jacson Stewart, Brady Hogan, Patrick Storer and Corey Oxley played well for the Lake Boga Magpies.

In the Colts competition it was Swan Hill which fought for a 78-73 win against Lake Boga.

The Swans finished the home-and-away series in second place on a 13-3 record as Lake Boga topped the ladder on a 15-1 tally.

The Swans beat the Magpies by 17 points in the second semi-final.

Swan Hill reigned again on the season’s biggest day.

Harry Scott and Wilhem Bennett capped a great match by kicking five and four goals.

Other goalkickers for the Swans were Lane Cardenas, Harry Graham and  Darcy Uebergang.

Lake Boga’s attack was led by Bryce Anderson with three goals as Darcy Butler and Max O’Reilly added two each.

The Magpies also had Lachlan Bull, Bailey Clarke, Kai Everett, and captain Willem Holmes on target.

Best for Swan Hill were Harry Scott, Lane Cardenas, Wilhem Bennett, Cody McIntyre, Mitch Bannam and Sam Brown.

Lake Boga’s best were Max O’Reilly, Darcy Butler, Willem Pye, Willem Holmes, Bryce Anderson and Lachlan Heil.

The Colts premiership-winning team from Swan Hill:

An 18th victory capped Swan Hill’s unbeaten run to be premiers in the Mildura Health Fund under-15s competition.

The Swans faced Kerang in the grand final.

Swan Hill led 14-1 at quarter-time and 23-1 by the main break.

Quarter three was to be the Swans’ best as they added 3.1 and Kerang goaled through Kai Roberts.

Swan Hill kicked on for a 50-8 victory in a match where Clem Harris slotted three goals and Finn Hufer added two.

Other goalkickers for the unbeaten champions were Jimmy Kelly and Lenny Ryan.

Swan Hill’s best were Lenny Ryan, Clem Harris, Jimmy Kelly, Tom Robertson, Jace Lloyd and Finn Hufer.

Oscar Greenwood, Declan Heffer, Saxon Walker, Kai Roberts, Charlie Greenwood and Cooper Gray were best for the Kerang Blues.
