Heathcote fights for victory in Huntly

HEATHCOTE withstood a final-quarter fightback by Huntly to win Sunday’s third round match in Agnico Eagle Fosterville Gold Mine Heathcote DFNL senior footy.

The Saints and Hawks played out a great match on the Harlowe Huntly Hawks turf in Strauch Reserve.

Heathcote led 12-10 at quarter-time and then won the second term, 22-7.

As the Saints added 4.4 in the crucial third quarter they kept the Hawks to a tally of 3.1.

A Heathcote line-up coached by Andrew Saladino, non-playing, and Liam Jacques, playing, held a 26-point buffer going into the final term.

Huntly fought back strongly to score four goals, but a solitary goal by the Saints was enough to clinch a 70-64 victory.

Sean Williams led Heathcote’s attack on three goals as Dylan Johnstone and Jake Waters added two each.

Huntly’s attack was led by Sam Dunstan on three as Abe Sladden and Darby Walsh booted two.

Best for Heathcote were Stefan Rasinac, Codie Price, Will Tobin, Sean Williams, Lachlan Freeman Taber, and Jake Waters.

Nathan Dunstan, Harrison Campbell, Riley Beard, Mitch Billings, Todd Stevenson and Darby Walsh were best for the Hamish Morcom-coached Hawks.

Eight goals in the second quarter set up Colbinabbin’s win against White Hills at M.J. Morgan Reserve in Colbinabbin.

The red-hot Demons made a strong start to be up 26-19 at quarter-time.

In the second it was Colbinabbin which seized control.

As the Grasshoppers kicked 8.6 they kept the Demons to just two goals.

A closely-fought third term went Colbo’s way, 18-16.

Led by the play of Laine Fitzgerald, ruckman Jasper McArdle and Jai Carn the Colbinabbin line-up kicked on for a 127-74 victory.

Laine Fitzgerald was Colbinabbin’s leading goalkicker on four as Jai Carn and Alex Carr kicked three.

White Hills captain Jake Thompson slotted a match-high five goals as Patrick Conlan booted two.

Best for the Linton Jacobs-coached Colbinabbin included William Le Deux, Tanner Nally and Aidan Basile.

Seth Boyd, Patrick Crawford, Kyle Gellatly, Khy Sawyer, Jake Thompson and Josh Harris.

The Demons are coached by Brad McConnell and Lachie Sawyer.

Stung by consecutive defeats, North Bendigo banked its first points of the season after a 40-point win at Elmore.

The Bulldogs led 29-14 at quarter-time and 50-24 by the main break.

Jordan Ford, Liam Dillon and Ryan Hartley won many contests as the Bulldogs scored four goals in the third and another four in the last.

The Luke Freeman-coached Elmore worked hard to win the final term, 27-26.

At the final siren, North Bendigo led 103-63.

Key forward Dylan Klemm kicked four goals for the Bulldogs as Storm Giri and Sam Hancock added two.

Elmore’s attack was led by Matt Cox, Lachie Gawel and Ashton Sinn on two.

Best for the Bulldogs who are coached by Rob Bennett, non-playing, and Ryan Hartley included Jett Grundy, Bailey Cain and Jesse Clark.

Elmore’s best were Ashton Sinn, Rhys Holmberg, Matt O’Dwyer, Charlie O’Toole, Xavier Coghill and Matt Cox.

It was the Cats against the Blues as Lockington Bamawm United faced reigning premier Mount Pleasant at Lockington’s Nichol Trading Oval.

Mounts raced to a 35-12 lead by quarter-time.

The Jayden Howe-coached LBU fought back to win the second term, 26-16, as the Blues were up 51-38 by the main break.

A defender for a lot of his footy career, Bryce Hinneberg went on to kick a match-high six goals as co-captain Caelan Smith and Alex Wharton added three each in a 113-54 victory.

The Cats’ attack was led by captain Tyler Phillips with four as Henry Peris kicked two.

Best for the Blues were Bryce Hinneberg, Jack Hickman, Alex Wharton, Caelan Smith, Adam Triplett and Deklan Wille.

LBU’s best were Marcus Angove, Cooper Mitchell, Lachlan Holthuisen, Bowden Stone, Tyler Phillips and Nick Smart.

A Mount Pleasant team coached by Josh Hann, playing, and Cam Carter, non-playing, meets Colbinabbin in the battle of the unbeaten ladder leaders at Toolleen in round four.

Leitchville Gunbower had the bye.

In the netball action………..COLBINABBIN was too slick for White Hills in Sunday’s third round of A-grade netball in the Agnico Eagle Fosterville Gold Mine Heathcote DFNL action.

The Grasshoppers and Demons played on Colbinabbin’s court at M.J. Morgan Oval.

Unbeaten in the run to last season’s premiership, Colbinabbin’s slick passing in all thirds of the court and accurate goaling were highs in a 62-35 victory by the Jen McIntyre-coached team.

It was the first defeat for this season for the Elley Lawton-coached White Hills.

Elmore marked its return to the court  as it played North Bendigo at Elmore Recreation Reserve.

Defences were on top for a lot of this contest.

The Kiralee Kinder-coached North Bendigo scored a 35-27 win against the Bloods.

A nil-two record has the Adam Boldiston-coached Elmore fired up leading into next Saturday’s match on the White Hills court in Scott Street.

Harlowe Huntly Hawks soared to their first win of the season.

The Kym Bell and Ashlea Sherlock-coached Hawks reached the 60-goal mark in a 26-goal victory against Heathcote.

The Brooke Price-coached Heathcote plays its first home game of the season in next Saturday’s clash with Leitchville Gunbower at Pigeon Park in Barrack Reserve.

Lockington Bamawm United faced a tough test against Mount Pleasant at Lockington’s Nichol Trading Oval.

The Stacy Bacon-coached LBU worked hard to rack up 39 goals.

Last season’s runner-up, Mount Pleasant poured in 75 goals.

The Anthea McCleary-coached Blues lead the ladder going into next Saturday’s big game against Colbinabbin in Toolleen.

Leitchville Gunbower had the bye.

Leitchville Gunbower faces Huntly at Gunbower from 2.30pm.
