HAY capped a great fightback to beat Ultima by a point in Saturday’s round four showdown in Radio 3SH-backed Central Murray FNL senior footy.
The Lions faced a 26-point deficit at quarter-time and were down by nine points at the main break of the contest in their den at Hay Recreation Reserve.
In the third it was Hay which took control and scored five goals as Ultima added three majors.
The Lions led by a goal going into the final quarter.
Ultima won the term, 20-15, but it was the Lions who clung to a one-point lead as the scoreboard read 103-102 at the siren.
James Lugsdin led the Lions’ attack on five goals as Jack Headon and Fergus Cattanach kicked four and three majors.
Ultima’s leading goalkicker was Dustin Burns on three.
Hay’s best were James Lugsdin, Dylan Adkins, Tom Sheldrick, Declan Watson, Fergus Cattanach and Jack Headon.
The Lions are coached by Mick Cattanach and James Moran.
Lucas Caccaviello, Jye Purtill, Thomas Isma, Dustin Burns, Sol Kelly and Kyle Symons were Ultima’s best.
The Eagles are coached by Joel Donnan.
Nyah Nyah West United was too strong on its ground against Mallee Eagles.
The Demons brought the heat as they raced to a 33-8 lead by quarter-time and were up 54-10 by the long break.
Mallee hit back to win the third quarter, 24-8.
The NNWU line-up had Jonathon Ross kick a match-high four goals as Charlie Boulton booted three in a 100-53 victory.
The Eagles’ attack was led by Cody Henness and Darcy Hourigan on two goals.
Best for Nyah Nyah West United were Jonathon Ross, Jaydyn Stirling, Blake Larkings, Dominic Gallo, Jordan Johnston and Scott Carlin.
The Demons are coached by Corey Daniels.
Mallee’s best were Tom and Harry McGregor, coach Harry Allen, Jacob O’Meara, Darcy McGregor and Isaiah Bull.
Tyntynder celebrated its first win of the season after the Bulldogs defeated Murrabit by 56 points at Swan Hill’s Alan Garden Reserve.
A point separated the teams at quarter-time.
The Darcy Bibby-coached Tyntynder scored three goals in the crucial third term and kept the Blues to a point.
Tyntynder then slammed on seven goals in the last quarter to complete an 89-33 victory.
Sam Bates led the Bulldogs’ attack on four goals as Jordi Bibby booted three and Zac Denham added two.
Riley Carse, Leo Ellison, Bailey Pengelly and Adam Thomson were on target for a Murrabit team coached by Rick Ladson and Jack Shannahan.
Tyntynder’s best were Harry Simpson, Sam Bull, Elia Ware, Sam Bates, Angus Crowe and Zac Denham.
Murrabit’s best were Jack Shannahan, Ben Derbas, James Russo, Tomas Boustead, Cruz Jolliffe and Bailey Pengelly.
Cohuna Kangas marked the 300-game milestone of coach Jack Geary with a 10-goal victory at home against Moulamein.
A multiple premiership player with Golden Square and Michelsen medallist in the Bendigo FNL, Geary’s in his third season with Cohuna.
The Kangas raced to a 23-point lead by quarter-time and were up 50-32 by the main break.
As Cohuna scored five goals in the third it kept the Swans to a goal.
Geary kept up racking up possessions at will in a best-on-ground performance as Tom Toma and Corbin Anderson also starred in the 109-49 win.
The Kangas’ attack was led by Corbin Anderson with five goals as Lachlan English kicked three and Toma added two.
Moulamein’s multiple goalkicker was Adam Curry on two.
Best for Cohuna Kangas included Sam McGlone, Brady Hore and Daniel Coates.
Jack Jones, Tobie Richardson, Charlie Bowes, Mark Drotsky, Xander Hartland and Haydn Slater.
The Swans are coached by Brodie Tonkin and Hayden Dalitz.
Woorinen kicked clear in the final term to defeat Kerang by 40 points in the Tigers’ den at Woorinen Recreation Reserve.
The Brad Pay-coached Kerang started well to lead 16-10 at quarter-time.
Woorinen won the second, 9-3, and the third, 33-25.
Led by the play of Henry Thompson, Rhys Cason and Lachlan Warburton the Tigers scored six goals in the last to complete 98-58 victory.
Sam Hilton-Joyce finished with four goals as Lachlan Warburton slotted three goals and Will Collicoat, Lachlan Gardner and Hugh Thompson added two each.
Kerang’s Zak Bozanich kicked a match-high five goals as Archer Dibsdale added two.
Best for the Tim Free-coached Woorinen included Kane Reid, Oscar Lewis and Taylor Cameron.
Tyson Clingan, Josh Hunter, Zak Bozanich, Archer Dibsdale, Jack Sullivan and Rylee Gitsham were best for the Blues.
A nine-goal haul by Cameron Arnold highlighted Koondrook Barham’s big win at Balranald’s Greenham Park.
As Arnold slotted nine goals the River Raiders also had Kye Attwell kick six in the 182-18 victory.
Other multiple goalkickers for Koondrook Barham were Roy George on Josh McMahon with three and Harry Bremner on two.
Balranald’s goalkickers were Brandon Gardiner, Sebastian Papa and Tom Salau.
Best for the Marcus Demaria-coached Koondrook Barham were Cameron Arnold, Jacob Barrington, Jack Poulton, Kye Attwell, Roy George and Ryan Bassett.
Tom Salau, Brandon Gardiner, Jack Salau, Ryan Middlebrook and Liam Farnsworth were best for the Brent Macleod-coached Balranald.
Tooleybuc Manangatang marked a 77-point win against Lake Boga at Tooleybuc Recreation Reserve.
The Saints led 22-7 at quarter-time and then slammed on six goals in the second term to lead 60-11 by the break.
Tooleybuc Manangatang’s defensive play was a highlight as it held the Magpies to a goal across the opening three quarters.
Austin Hodge dominated in the forward 50m arc with six goals as co-coach Nayef Hamad capped a great match with four goals in a 109-32 victory.
Goalkickers for Lake Boga were Rex Hickman, Nathaniel Holmes-Brown and Marty Parsons.
Best for Tooleybuc Manangatang were Nayef Hamad, Cohen Frith, Gareth Grant, Josh Chatfield, Robbie McComb and Nick Ryan.
The Saints have Robbie McComb as co-coach.
Ryan Fox, Jordan Reardon, Codie Anderson, Lachlan Tarczon, Marty Parsons and Brody Palmer were best for the Dean Helmers-coached Magpies.
Swan Hill soared to a 138-point win on Wandella’s turf.
The Swans slammed on nine goals in the opening term to lead 59-3 at the break.
By half-time Swan Hill led 77-10.
Seven goals by the Swans in the third was followed by another four in the last to complete a 156-18 victory.
Swan Hill’s attack was by Xavier Moloney and Patrick Veszpremi on six and five goals as Tom Smith added four.
Other multiple goalkickers were Jack Brown, James Horsey and Will Simpson with two.
Wandella’s goals were off the boot of John Cooper and Laing Waddingham.
Best for the Jason Murphy-coached Swans were Connor Dooley, Xavier Moloney, Lane Cardenas, Tom Smith, James Horsey and Cooper Angus.
Wandella coach Justin Robinson was best along with Jarred Schlitz, Tim Robinson, Seth Hall, John Cooper and Matt Wilkinson.
