Whatever the cost may be, Macorna’s members and fans have been getting value for money in the club’s first season in Bendigo Bank Loddon Valley FNL senior footy.
The Tigers from Macorna featured in another one-point thriller in Saturday’s round 12 clash at Gadsden Finance Serpentine Reserve.
Macorna led 26-18 at quarter-time before the Bears struck back to win the second term, 22-13.
Five goals as it kept BLS to a major in the third gave Macorna a 27-point lead going into the final quarter.
The Bears clawed their way back into the contest by scoring five goals.
A goal was enough for the Fergus Payne-coached Macorna to clinch an 81-80 victory.
The Tigers’ attack was led by Toby Whinfield on three goals as Will Canham and Seb Erharter slotted two each.
James Bailey kicked three goals for the Bears as Luke Crawford and Tanner Rayner booted two.
Best for Macorna were Kieran Foley, Tom Ebbage in the ruck, Sam and Toby Whinfield, John Officer and Will Meharry.
Charlie Gadsden, Tyler Miles, Callum Draper, James Bailey, Steve Gladman and Nathan Twigg played well for the Jake Wilkinson-coached Bears Lagoon-Serpentine.
It was a big day for Miggy Podosky who played his 200th senior match for the Bears.
Across the past five rounds Macorna lost at Pyramid Hill by a point; beat Bridgewater by three points, lost to Maiden Gully YCW Eagles by four points; beat Mitiamo by 106 points; and defeated the Bears by a point.
Next up for the Tigers is hosting Inglewood in the clash of fourth and fifth.
What was Jhye Baddeley-Kelly’s 60th goal of the season clinched a crucial two-point win against Maiden Gully YCW Eagles at Marist College Oval.
The Jarrod Fitzpatrick-coached Bulldogs were under the pump all match in the Eagles’ nest.
Maiden Gully YCW led 13-3 at quarter-time and 40-23 by the main break.
In the third it was Pyramid Hill which struck back to score four goals, but the Eagles replied with three majors to be in front, 58-51 going into the final quarter.
An Eagles’ team coached by Shawn Filo, non-playing, and Angus Monfries, playing, looked poised to mark a long-awaited victory against the Bulldogs.
Both teams had scored four goals in the last as the Eagles led by four points in the final minute.
From a marking contest near the goal line Baddeley-Kelly was awarded a free-kick for a push in the back.
The gun goalkicker calmly slotted his fifth goal of the match to seal an 84-82 victory.
Other multiple goalkickers for the red, white and blue were Jarrod Fitzpatrick and Will Quinlivan on two each.
The Eagles’ attack was led by Ty Bedford and Angus Monfries on three each as Luke Gray and Mitch Hill kicked two goals.
Best for Pyramid Hill were Brodie Carroll, Jayden Dick, Tom Downie, Ryan McGhie, Jhye Baddeley-Kelly and Lachie Nicholson.
Mitch Hill, Tye Bedford, Daniel Russell, Josh Worsley and Isaac Neretlis were Maiden Gully YCW Eagles’ best.
Newbridge returned to the winner’s list after a 106-57 result at home against Mitiamo at Deepcore Drilling Riverside Oval.
The Jayden Cordy-coached Newbridge was desperate to break a five-match losing streak and stay in touch with the fifth-placed Inglewood.
After an inaccurate 1.7 in the first term Newbridge slammed on seven goals in the second quarter to lead 59-13 by half-time.
A closely-fought third quarter went the way of the Maroons, 22-13.
Mitiamo showed plenty of fight to score five goals in the last, but it was Newbridge which held a 49-point lead at the siren.
Chris Dixon led Newbridge’s attack on four goals as Declan Campbell, Brodie Carr and Zebb Murrell kicked two each.
Mitiamo’s leading goalkicker was Brayden Baines on four.
Newbridge’s best were Declan Campbell, Jon Coe, Dylan Lloyd, Caleb Sanders, Blake Wells and coach Jayden Cordy.
Zach Morrison, Lenny Cook, Ryan Duncan, Scott Baldwin, Zak Myers and Jacob Cassells were best for the Luke Lougoon-coached Superoos.
An eight-goal blitz in the first quarter set up Marong’s win at home against Calivil United at Jackal Oval in Malone Park.
As the Panthers slammed on 8.4 in the opening term they kept the Demons to a tally of 1.2.
Calivil United worked hard to limit Marong to just two goals in the second term.
The Panthers scored seven goals in the third and six in the last to complete a 157-66 victory.
Cooper Hale and Ryley Taylor led Marong’s attack on five and four goals.
Other multiple goalkickers for the reigning premier were captain Nathan Devanny on three, as Jai Gretgrix, Max Lowery and Noah McCaig kicked two each.
It was another superb match by Henry McCarthy in Calivil United’s attack as he kicked match-high six goals and Rhys Lourie added two.
Best for the James Flaherty-coached Marong were David Johnstone, Nathan Devanny, Cooper Hale, Ryley Taylor, Corey Gregg and Max Balcke.
Henry McCarthy, Cody Thompson, Sam Green, Kade Blow, Liam Stephens and Zac Tickell were best for the Sam Maher-coached Demons.
An 11-goal haul by coach Lachie Sharp was among the highs of Bridgewater’s big win on Inglewood’s turf at Centre State Scaffolding Oval.
The Mean Machine led 38-10 at the first break and was up 75-24 by the long break.
Eight goals in the third term was followed by seven in the last.
By the final siren Bridgewater led 171-54.
The Mean Machine’s on-ballers and midfield set up plenty of attacks which were capped by Sharp’s haul of 11 goals as Oscar McKinley kicked six.
Other multiple goalkickers were Mitch Patten on four and Charlie Gibson with three.
Inglewood’s leading goalkicker was Mischa Fraillon with four as Liam Marciano kicked two.
Best for Bridgewater were Harry Conway, Luke Ellings, Mitch Patten, Oscar McKinley, Charlie Gibson and Lachie Sharp.
Gabe Nevins, Tom Kennedy, Mischa Fraillon, Charlie Aitken, Lachlan Ford and Riley Murphy were best for the Jackson Hood-coached Blues.

In the netball…….UNBEATEN in its quest for an A-grade netball premiership hat-trick, Mitiamo took the points in Saturday’s round 12 match against Newbridge.
The Jen Wilson-coached Mitiamo made its way to Deepcore Drilling Oval in Newbridge’s Riverside Park.
There were more 90 goals tipped in as the Superoos marked a 50-41 victory.
As Mitiamo held top spot on the ladder the Hayley Martiniello-coached Newbridge dropped to the third rung.
Bridgewater jumped to second in the premiership race after an emphatic victory on Inglewood’s court at Centre State Scaffolding Oval.
A Bridgewater team coached by Lou Dupuy and Carly Wood won 61-28.
It was the second time this season the Mean Machine had outplayed Inglewood.
Back in round three Bridgewater scored a 64-31 win at home against the Dani O’Toole-coached Blues in the Anzac match.
Inglewood dropped to the fifth rung and is now just two points clear of Pyramid Hill.
Marong marked a crucial win on its court at Jackal Oval in Malone Park against Calivil United.
The Bridget Willox and Bianca Garton-coached Marong beat the Panthers by nine goals.
A 45-36 result meant Marong held fourth place and moved 10 points clear of a Calivil United team coached by Annie Blow and Alex Ingram.
Bears Lagoon-Serpentine achieved a long-awaited victory as it clung to a one-goal lead when the siren sounded to end its match against Macorna.
The Erin Varker-coached Bears claimed a 31-30 victory on their court at Gadsden Finance Serpentine Reserve.
Although disappointed not to have achieved a breakthrough victory there was plenty to like about the play of the Brooke Allison-coached Macorna as their previous showdown with the Bears ended in a 17-goal defeat.
The Maiden Gully YCW Eagles could not halt Pyramid Hill’s charge to a big win at Marist College Oval.
The Bulldogs won 66-38 and in the process kept the heat on the fourth and fifth-placed Marong and Inglewood.
Runner-up last season a Pyramid Hill team coached by Chelsea Emmerson, Amber Dingwall and Darci Tierney is just a win behind the second and third-placed Bridgewater and Newbridge.
