Hay wins final round thriller against Murrabit
HAY and Murrabit played out a thrilling finale to their seasons in Saturday’s 16th round of the Golden Rivers Football League’s senior footy season.
The Hay team raced to a 40-27 lead by half-time in the Pride Match on Hay’s turf.
It was 9-7 in the third in favour of the home team.
Murrabit played a brilliant final quarter to score 4.4 to 2.3, but it was Hay which held on for a 64-62 victory.
Nathan Wilson and Daniel Stewart led Hay’s attack on three and two goals.
Murrabit’s leading goalkicker were Daniel Hovey on five, and Jordan McNeil with two.
Best for Hay were Kenneth Jubb, Dean Aylett, Tim Zambon, Lachlan Cohen, Cooper Scott and Daniel Stewart.
Marc O’Neill, Michael Grant, Daniel Hovey, Nicholas Hein and Matthew Penny played well for Murrabit.
Quambatook kept Macorna scoreless in the second half of their clash at Quambatook.
The home team led 60-19 at half-time and then scored 2.2 and 4.4 in the next two quarters to complete a 102-19 victory.
Will Collicoat kicked five goals as Martin Angus and Gregor Knight added two each.
Quambatook’s best were Gregor Knight, Will Collicoat, Tobie Cameron, Nick Birthisel, Tristan Ramadge and Pras Sayakhot.
Grady Smith, Lachlan Ritchie, Jacob McIntosh, Josh Walters, Kieren Shelley and Toby Whinfield were best for the Macorna Tigers.
The ladder-leading Nullawil marked a 106-point win at home against Ultima.
A brilliant first quarter by Nullawil yielded 7.3 to a point.
Ultima hit back to score 3.3 to 4.4 in the second term.
Led by the play of Jordan Humprheys, Andrew Oberdorfer and Daniel Watts, Nullawil scored 7.4 to a point in the third term and 4.4 to 3.0 in the last.
Andrew Oberdorfer capped a superb match with 10 goals as Andrew Casey and Daniel Watts added four each.
Ultima’s attack was led by Jack Delmenico on three.
Best for Nullawil included Andrew Casey, Billy Forrester and Zac Kelly.
Will Nelson, Sean O’Rielly, Jamie Nicholas, Jack Delmenico, Kyle Symons and Billy Delmenico worked hard for Ultima.
Moulamein slammed on 6.6 to 2.1 to set up victory at home against Wandella.
It was an evenly-fought second term which Moulamein won 34-18.
The Wandella line-up fired up to win the third quarter, 20-14, but was kept scoreless in the last as Moulamein scored 2.5 to complete a 107-51 victory.
Beau Duggan-Hulands kicked five goals for Moulamein as Josh Flight chipped in with three.
Wandella’s attack was led by Logan Keighran on four.
Best for Moulamein were Corey Farrell, Nickolas Miller, Mason Bailey, Rodney Reeves, Lachie Martin and Nathan Buckley.
Wandella’s best were Russell Rich, Jack Radcliffe, Tim Robinson, Declan Hogg, Ricky Cathie and Darren Rushton.

Finals action kicks off next Saturday at Hay when first semi-finals are played.
In the seniors, Wandella takes on Moulamein from 2.40pm.
Macorna and Wandella contest the reserves from 12.35pm.
The under-17 ½ clash is between Ultima and Nullawil from 10.40am.
The day’s footy action kicks off at 9.35am with the under-14 ½ match between Murrabit and Ultima.
Second semi-finals on August 27 at Quambatook will feature Nullawil and Quambatook in the seniors clash.
Wandella hosts preliminary finals on September 3.
Grand final day on September 10 will be at Nullawil.
