Eagles aim to extend winning run in semi showdown with Roos

UNBEATEN since round one, Maiden Gully YCW Eagles will aim to extend its run in A-grade netball in this weekend’s semi-final action in the Bendigo Bank Loddon Valley Football Netball League.

The Eagles are on a 13-game winning streak as they take to the court for Saturday’s second semi-final against Mitiamo.

The Christie Griffiths-coached Eagles will start favourite at Gadsden Finance Serpentine Reserve to be first to advance to grand final day on September 10 at Marist College Oval in Maiden Gully.

This season’s meetings between Maiden Gully YCW and Mitiamo stand at two-nil in favour of the Eagles.

In round seven, the Eagles won 67-54 on their court.

The return match in round 16 at Mitiamo’s John Forbes Oval ended in a 58-47 triumph for the visitors.

 

Reigning premiers from the 2019 season, Mitiamo began its finals campaign with a 16-goal victory in last Saturday’s qualifying final against Marong.

Although up against an opponent on its court at Malone Park, the Laura Hicks-coached Mitiamo played inspired netball to win 57-41.

The A-grade first semi-final on Sunday at Calivil pits Marong against Calivil United.

These teams met just a few weeks ago in which the contest was declared a 52-all draw on Marong’s court.

Calivil United won the round eight match with the Panthers by three goals.

Based on this season’s showdowns, netball fans may witness another thrilling battle as the Demons and Panthers fight to stay in the premiership race.

The Demons scored a 61-56 against Bridgewater in last Sunday’s elimination final at Mitiamo.

 

In the B-grade competition, Newbridge takes on Bridgewater in the second semi-final.

The Maroons won both matches in the regular season by margins of 13 and five goals.

Bridgewater scored a 16-goal victory in the qualifying final against Maiden Gully YCW.

The Eagles from Maiden Gully YCW will start favourite in the first semi against Pyramid Hill.

In round five, the Eagles won 47-21 at Pyramid Hill’s Mitchell Park and followed up with a 29-goal win at home in the 14th round.

The Bulldogs beat Marong by 14 goals in the elimination final.

Season record between C-grade second semi-finalists Maiden Gully YCW and Bridgewater is two-nil in favour of the Eagles.

In round eight, the Eagles won 46-34 on Bridgewater’s court and then 60-26 at home in the 17th round.

Bridgewater scored a one-goal victory against Marong in the qualifying final.

It’s the Panthers against the Bears as Marong faces Bears Lagoon Serpentine in the C-grade first semi.

 

Marong has won showdowns with BLS by 13 and eight goals.

The Bears scored a 47-44 win against Calivil United in the elimination final.

Maiden Gully YCW takes on Marong in the second semi-final for C-reserve.

The Eagles have won the previous contests with the Panthers by 16 and eight goals.

Marong won the qualifying clash with Newbridge by two goals.

 

On Sunday, Newbridge meets Bridgewater in the first semi-final.

The Maroons have beaten the Mean Machine by five and nine goals in the run to finals.

Bridgewater won the elimination final against Calivil United by 11 goals.

The 17-under second semi-final features Newbridge against Maiden Gully YCW.

The Maroons won at Marist College Bendigo by three goals in round three, but the Eagles marked an eight-goal win at Newbridge in the 12th round.

Maiden Gully won the qualifying final against Calivil United by 13 goals.

 

On Sunday, Calivil United takes on Bridgewater.

The season record stands at one-all.

Bridgewater fell to the Demons by 11 goals in round five, but won at Calivil by five goals in the 14th round.

The Mean Machine won the elimination final against Bears Lagoon Serpentine by 12 goals.

Marong will start favourite in the 15-under second semi-final showdown with Pyramid Hill.

The Panthers beat the Bulldogs by 42 goals in round four and won at Pyramid Hill by 19 goals in the 13th round.

It was a dramatic start to Pyramid Hill’s finals campaign as it marked a 41-40 victory against Maiden Gully YCW in the qualifying final.

The Eagles will aim to bounce back in a first semi against Bears Lagoon Serpentine.

Maiden Gully has beaten the Bears by nine and eight goals.

The young stars from BLS scored a two-goal win against Calivil United in the elimination final.

 

In the 13-under competition, Marong plays Pyramid Hill in the second semi.

The Panthers won the fourth round clash with the Bulldogs by 12 goals, but Pyramid Hill took out the 13th round match by three goals at home.

Pyramid Hill won the qualifying final against Mitiamo by two goals.

The Mitiamo Superoos will strive to rebound from defeat when they take on Calivil United in the first semi.

Mitiamo won both matches against the Demons in the home and away series by 16 and 12 goals.

Calivil United took out the elimination final against Bears Lagoon Serpentine by 20 goals.

15-and-under at 10.30am: Marong v Pyramid Hill.

13-and-under at 12pm: Marong v Pyramid Hill.

17-and-under at 12pm: Newbridge v Maiden Gully YCW Eagles.

B-grade at 1.30pm: Newbridge v Bridgewater.

C-reserve at 1.30pm: Maiden Gully YCW Eagles v Marong.

C-grade at 3pm: Maiden Gully YCW Eagles v Bridgewater.

A-grade at 3pm: Maiden Gully YCW Eagles v Mitiamo.
