Magpies eliminate Tigers from A-grade netball flag race

LAKE Boga put Woorinen Tigers out of the A-grade netball premiership race when it won Saturday’s elimination final on day of the Central Murray Football Netball League’s finals series.

The Magpies and Tigers fought to keep their season alive at Nyah Recreation Reserve.

Lake Boga led 20-12 at half-time before Woorinen reduced the deficit to seven at a quarter to play.

It was the Pies who turned up the heat to win the last term, 10-5, and the contest, 38-26.

Lake Boga’s attack was led by Sarah Hepburn, 28 goals; and Katie Hepburn, 10.

 

After being up by a goal at half-time, Tooleybuc Manangatang charged away for a 49-36 victory in the A-reserve clash with Lake Boga.

Goalscorers for Lake Boga were Meg-Jordyne Rooney and Aimee Hinton with 18 apiece.

Lake Boga marked a 43-35 win against Nyah Nyah West United in the B-grade elimination final.

Samantha Taverna scored 23 goals for the Magpies as Kaly Moore added 20.

The NNWU attack was led by Amanda Tadich, 20; Jenae Johnstone, 14; and Nandia Brabham, one.

 

In B-reserve, Koondrook Barham led 25-12 at half-time of the clash with Woorinen.

Both teams scored seven goals in the third quarter before the Roos won the last, 13-6, for a 45-25 result.

Final margin in the 18-and-under match between Swan Hill and Balranald was two goals.

The Swans led by a goal at each quarter-time break and won the final term, 10-9, for a 35-33 victory.

 

It was a one-goal thriller in the 16-and-under match between Lake Boga and Swan Hill.

The Swans led 20-17 at half-time and 31-27 going into the final quarter.

Lake Boga lifted to win a dramatic final term, 12-9, but it was Swan Hill which claimed a 40-39 victory.

In the 14-and-uner competition, Kerang led 19-13 at half-time on the way to a 36-19 victory against Cohuna Kangas.

 

Qualifying finals were played on Saturday at Woorinen Recreation Reserve.

Kellie Walker scored 45 goals and Emelia Shanahan added five as Mallee Eagles won the A-grade clash with Balranald by five goals.

The Eagles led 28-20 at half-time and 41-35 at a quarter to play.

Balranald’s attack was led by Madison Jess, 18; Ella Mirtschin, 15; and Jess Parry, 12.

 

A hard-fought A-reserve match ended in a 51-46 win for Swan Hill against Balranald.

The Swans were down 22-25 at half-time, but won the third term, 15-11.

Emily Paterson scored 37 goals and Bianca Brown added 14 in a 51-46 victory.

The Kangas’ goalscorers were Madison Jess, 30; Macy Lloyd, 13; and Chloe Taylor, 3.

 

Just two goals separated Swan Hill and Woorinen at the end of the B-grade clash.

Scores were 20-all at half-time before the Swans won the third term, 12-9.

The Tigers fought back to claim the last, 7-6, but it was Swan Hill which triumphed 38-36.

Millie and Sophie Reed scored 29 and nine goals for the Swans.

Woorinen’s goalscorers were Toni Bolton, 27; Chloe Burrell, 5; and Chloe Beasy, 4.

 

In B-reserve, Cohuna led 23-14 at half-time before Nyah Nyah West United struck back to win the third quarter, 10-5.

The final term went the way of the Cohuna Kangas, 6-5, for a 34-29 victory.

Alyce Mathers reached a match-high 28 goals for Cohuna as Jenna Grubb added six.

NNWU’s attack was led by Charnea Threadgold, 25; and Louisa Curran, 4.

 

Tyntynder won  three of four quarters in a 35-28 victory against Cohuna Kangas in the 18-and-under match.

Kerang won a high-scoring 16-under match against Koondrook Barham.

The Blues led 51-42 at the final siren.

 

In the 14-and-under competition, Tyntynder scored a 26-18 win against Lake Boga.

Finals action moves to Kerang’s Riverside Park next Saturday where second semi-finals will be played.

In A-grade, Swan Hill will be striving to be first to the grand final when it takes on Mallee Eagles.

16-and-under at 9am: Tooleybuc Manangatang v Kerang.

14-and-under at 10.20am: Woorinen v Tyntynder.

18-and-under at 10.20am: Lake Boga v Tyntynder.

B-grade at 11.40am: Mallee Eagles v Swan Hill.

B-reserve at 1pm: Swan Hill v Cohuna Kangas.

A-reserve at 1pm: Mallee Eagles v Swan Hill.

A-grade at 2.30pm: Swan Hill v Mallee Eagles.

16-and-under at 9am: Koondrook Barham v Swan Hill.

14-and-under at 10.20am: Lake Boga v Kerang.

18-and-under at 10.20am: Cohuna Kangas v Swan Hill.

B-grade at 11.40am: Woorinen v Lake Boga.

B-reserve at 1pm: Nyah Nyah West United v Koondrook Barham.

A-reserve at 1pm: Balranald v Tooleybuc Manangatang.

A-grade at 2.30pm: Balranald v Lake Boga.
