Ultima blitzes Moulamein in season opener
ULTIMA kicked off the Golden Rivers senior footy action by scoring a 100-point win against Moulamin in Saturday’s opening round.
The Kangaroos dominated play on their ground at Ultima Recreation Reserve.
A closely-fought first term went Ultima’s way, 26-8.
From there it was the Roos who romped away.
Ultima won the second term, 6.4 to nil and then scored 9.4 to 2.4 in the second half to complete a 124-24 victory.
Brodie Bennett and Lincoln Frost led the Roos’ attack on four goals each.
Heath Moloney booted two goals for the Swans.
Ultima’s best were Jye Purtill, Thomas Bull, Mitch Makepeace, Cameron Johnson, Sam Coffey and Brodie Bennett.
Xander Hartland, Andrew May, Kaylem Hartley, James White, Rodney Reeves and Ely Miller were best on a tough afternoon for Moulamein.
It was a promising start in Hay’s pursuit of back-to-back premierships.
The Lions unveiled the ’23 flag and then charged to a 121-48 victory against Murrabit.
Key forward Declan Watson kicked six goals as Tom Spence added three and William Collis, Angus Gardiner, Liam Whitbourne chipped in with two.
Murrabit’s attack was led by Patrick Bryan, Ryan Harvey and Jack Shannahan on two.
Best for Hay were Jack Cattanach, Jacob Watson, William Collis, Declan Watson, Jim Houston and Joel Crocker.
Nathan O’Toole, Austin McKerrow, Ben Gillingham, Dean Harrop, Tobie Cameron and Ryan Manning played well for the Blues.
Marcorna marked a six-goal win at home against Wandella.
The Tigers led 55-20 at half-time and 98-62 by full-time.
Michael Roberts and Tristan McIntosh led Macorna’s attack on three goals each.
John Cooper, Justin Robinson and Adam Ward kicked two goals apiece for the Bombers.
Best for Macorna were Hunter Anset, Xavier Wishart, Toby Whinfield, Malcolm Neiwand, Travis Mercandante and Josh Berryman.
Adam Ward, Logan Keighran, Nathan Boysen, Kaine O’Connell, John Cooper and Tim Robinson were Wandella’s best.

In next Saturday’s second round, Moulamein is at home against Hay.
It’s the clash of the Blues and Tigers as Murrabit hosts Macorna.
Wandella takes on Ultima in the Bombers’ hangar at Wandella Recreation Reserve.
