Sandhurst outpoints South on QEO court
ALTHOUGH it was without two of its best players, Sandhurst was too strong for South Bendigo in Saturday’s 12th round of A-grade netball in the Bendigo Bank Bendigo Football Netball League season.
The clash of the QEO co-tenants was dominated by the unbeaten Sandhurst from the first centre pass.
The Tamara Gilchrist-coached ladder leader charged to a 12-goal lead by quarter-time.
Sandhurst’s greatest margin at a break was 17 at half-time.
The Jannelle Hobbs-coached South Bendigo did lift to match Sandhurst in the final term as both teams scored 13 goals.
At the final whistle, Sandhurst led 64-41.
Paige Ryan and Darcy Williams were in the Sandhurst line-up for Ruby Turner and Meg Williams who played for North East Blaze in Saturday night’s VNL match.
A star in the Dragons’ 12th win of the season was Holly Lockhart at wing defence.
The third-placed Gisborne was too strong for Castlemaine.
The Bulldogs won 49-37 on Castlemaine’s court at Camp Reserve.
Closest margin of the round for A-grade was at Kyneton Showgrounds where the Tigers marked a 54-43 win against Strathfieldsaye.
It was win number three in ’22 for Maryborough after the Magpies won 74-51 against Golden Square at Princes Park.
Kangaroo Flat dominated play at Canterbury Park to score an 87-30 win against Eaglehawk.

In next Saturday’s action, Kangaroo Flat and Sandhurst meet in the battle of the league’s top two at Dower Park.
South Bendigo plays Kyneton at Queen Elizabeth Oval.
Strathfieldsaye faces Castlemaine at Triple M Park in Tannery Lane.
Golden Square takes on Eaglehawk at Fur Life Oval in Golden Square’s Wade Street.
Gisborne and Maryborough clash at Gardiner Reserve.
