BFNL Netball | Round 17 WRAP UP

League’s top five triumph on netball court

THE top five in the A-grade competition were victorious in Saturday’s 17th round in the Bendigo Bank Bendigo Football Netball League season.

Closest result of the afternoon was at Maryborough’s Princes Park where the Magpies took on South Bendigo.

The Jannelle Hobbs-coached South Bendigo had to work hard for a 57-45 victory.

Castlemaine made the trek to Eaglehawk’s Canterbury Park and won 57-40 in the battle of the Magpies and Hawks.

Stung by a five-goal loss at Gisborne the previous round, Kangaroo Flat bounced back to win 74-38 on the Roos’ court at Dower Park.

The ladder-leading Sandhurst was too strong for Kyneton at Queen Elizabeth Oval.

The Tamara Gilchrist-coached Sandhurst won 64-35 and only needs to win at Castlemaine next Saturday to ensure top spot and a rest in the first week of the finals series.

Gisborne’s hot form rolled on at Fur Life Oval in Golden Square’s Wade Street.

In the battle of the Bulldogs it was the Tarryn Rymer-coached Gisborne which won 68-27.

The visitors overcame a slow start against the blue and gold, but lifted its play in the second and third terms.

Highlights for Gisborne were the play of young defender Charlee Kemp and the work of the experienced Kirby Elliott in mid-court and Maddy Stewart in attack.
