BJFL Round 7 Review – Huntly Hawks

Huntly Hawks flying high

HUNTLY Hawks were flying high across the weekend’s seventh round in the Bendigo Bank Bendigo Junior Football League season.

It was a thrilling finish to the under-12B match between Huntly and Maryborough at Maryborough’s Princes Park on Saturday.

The Hawks led 24-22 at half-time and 49-44 going into the last quarter.

Maryborough goaled in the final term, but two behinds was enough for Huntly to clinch a 51-50 victory.

Goalkickers for Huntly were Rex Edwards, three; Isaac Plant, two; Henry Kleinert and Kyan Manson.

Best for the Hawks were Isaac Plant, Nash Campbell, Mitchell Fahy, Angus Davies, Rex Edwards and Henry Kleinert.

Huntly marked a 15-goal win against South Bendigo in the under-14 reserves, division two match played on Sunday at Kennington’s Harry Trott Oval.

The Hawks charged to a 44-2 lead by half-time and then scored 8.5 to 0.5 in the second half for a 97-7 result.

Cash Caldis led Huntly’s attack on five goals a Ryder Marriott added three.

Other goalkickers for the brown and gold were James Clark, Callum Fahy, Bailey Flood, Manix Kean, Rhys Pitson and Ryan Sowerby.

Best for the Hawks were James Clark, Manix Kean, Callum Fahy, Ryder Marriott, Caleb Cross and Caden Wheelhouse.

In the under-16 reserves, division two competition it was Huntly which turned an eight-point deficit at quarter-time into a 45-point win against Strathfieldsaye at Triple M Park in Strathfieldsaye’s Tannery Lane.

The Hawks scored 3.6 to a point in the second to lead 42-27 by half-time.

It was a strong finish by Huntly as it added 5.7 to nil in the last term to claim a 90-45 victory.

Oscar Davies kicked three goals for the Hawks as Zethan Jensen and Harley Matthews added two each.

Other goalkickers for Huntly were Marshall Archer, Joseph Buchanan, Zavyer Marwood, Harry Miller and Zaxon Shelton.

Best for the Hawks were Joseph Buchanan, Mitchell Lawrence, Rhys Fahy, Oscar Kleinert, Thomas Biggs and Zavyer Marwood.

Just one point separated Golden Squar and Huntly at the end of the under-16 reserves, division two match at Fur Life Oval in Golden Square’s Wade Street.

The Hawks led 30-5 at half-time of Sunday’s match.

Golden Square fought back to win the third quarter, 18-7.

The Bulldogs scored 2.4 to a point in the final term to claim a 39-38 victory.

Hawks’ captain Mack Ashton and Lincoln Cain kicked two goals as Koby Loftus was also on target.

Huntly’s best were Jordan Guidice, Hunter Adamson, Harrison Hargadon, Oskar Chilver, Jimmy Baker and Mack Ashton.

Because of the King’s Birthday holiday weekend the BJFL takes a break across June 7-9.

Round eight will be played on June 14, 15 and 16.
