Marong cubs performing well

THE Marong Panthers cubs performed well across the weekend’s ninth round in the Bendigo Bank Bendigo Junior Football League season.

Two  draws featured Marong teams.

In under-12C, Marong Blue finished locked on 11-all with Kangaroo Flat at Marong’s Malone Park.

Both teams scored 1.3 in the first half.

Marong led by point going into the last quarter.

The Roos scored two behinds as Marong added one.

Hunter Orhcard goaled for the Panthers.

Best for Marong were Chase Neal, Edward Swanton, Jack Cooper, Quinton Tyler, James Humme and Xan Smit.

It was 59-all at the end of the under-14 reserves, division two clash between Marong and Huntly at Marong’s Malone Park.

The Panthers led 15-6 at quarter-time before the Huntly Hawks scored to a 37-30 lead by half-time.

Marong dominated the third as it added 4.2 to a point.

In the last Huntly scored 3.3 as the Panthers were held to a tally of three behinds.

Marong finished on 8.11 (59) as Huntly’s score was 9.5 (59).

Goalkickers for the Panthers were Jack Atkinson, Jaxon Marwood and Jack Atkinson with two each, Ash Curnow and Tyler Pearce.

Best for Marong were Ash Curnow, Jack Metherell, Tyler Pearce, Nattai Carter, Jack Atkinson and Jyleigh Bradley.

Marong won the under-12 Girls match against St Francis Green by 11 points.

The Panthers led 15-6 at half-time of the game at Bendigo’s Ewing Park.

A tally of 2.2 as St Francis scored two goals was enough for the Panthers to win 29-18.

Goalkickers for Marong were Airlie Swanton, two; Nellie English and Matilda Tucker.

Best for the Panthers were Airlie Swanton, Matilda O’Sullivan, Missy Ladson, Lana Medhurst, Sophie Bourke and Ada Bell.

A six-goal first term set up Marong’s win against Golden Square in the under-16 reserves, division two match at Malone Park.

The Panthers scored 6.3 and held the Bulldogs to a goal in the opening term.

In the second the visitors fought back to score three goals as Marong added a point.

A closely-fought second half went the way of the Panthers, 30-18, to complete a 70-48 victory.

Marong’s attack was led by Jack Miller and Mitchell Pickering on three goals apiece as Harry Anett added two and John Bradley and Tyson Wakefield were also on target.

Best for the Panthers were Blake Wells, Harry Allison, Caleb Dudderidge, Kellan O’Brien, Ryan Marwood and Trey Olsen.

Marong Red faced Mount Pleasant in the under-12D match at Malone Park.

The Panthers led 15-4 at half-time.

Mount Pleasant struck back to win the third term, 14-3.

The Blues then added 2.3 to 1.1 in the last for a 33-25 victory.

Goalkickers for the Panthers were Jack Lakey, two; and Harvey Gunther.

Marong’s best were Matilda Tucker, Coby Horne, Alfie Healey, Max Henkel, Oliver Dawborn and Bentley Bramley.

The Panthers played Sandhurst in the under-15 girls seniors match at Ewing Park.

At half-time Sandhurst led 37-8.

Marong worked hard to score two goals in the second half.

At the final siren the maroon and blue led 46-20.

Goalkickers for Marong were Molly Austin, two, and Alyssa Wardell.

Best for the Panthers were Molly Austin, El Taylor, Alana Dawson, Lily DeAraugo, Olive Rogers and Emma O’Toole.

In the under-15 girls reserves competition, Marong played Eaglehawk on the Borough’s turf at Canterbury Park.

The Hawks won 80-11.

Best for Marong were Charlize Humme, Matilda Campbell, Jasmine Baker, Grace Smith, Nellie English and Miley Penny.
