BJFL Week 11 Review | Eagles fight to win thriller in Storm territory

MAIDEN Gully YCW Eagles capped a final quarter to beat Strathfieldsaye by a point in the IGA-backed Bendigo Junior Football League’s under-16 seniors match on Sunday.

There were many closely-fought contests across week 11 in the season.

The Maiden Gully YCW Eagles soared to some fine wins in the seven matches the club was represented in.

In the under-16 seniors match at Triple M Park in Strathfieldsaye, Maiden Gully was down 9-26 at quarter-time and 17-32 by half-time.

Storm led 50-27 going into the final term.

The Eagles lifted their play dramatically to score 5.1 to 1.1 in the last to clinch a 58-57 victory.

Maiden Gully YCW’s attack was led by Cahal Blandthorn, Liam Budge and Lewis Pigdon, two.

Best for the Eagles were Alex Wingrave, William Bartlett, Tye Allan, Archie Stevens, Phoenix Gordon and Sam Hancock.

The Eagles marked a 55-point win against White Hills Red in the under-16 reserves, divison two match at Marist College Bendigo in Maiden Gully.

A four-goal lead for the Eagles at half-time was five by the last change after they scored 5.3 to a point in the third quarter.

Noah Hadden kicked a match-high six goals and Steven Neervort added two in an 82-27 result.

Best for the Eagles were Noah Hadden, Mitchell Lines, Tahlan Brook, Dylan Goddard, Jackson Douglas and Jett Beagley.

Maiden Gully YCW played South Bendigo in the under-14 seniors match.

It was 53-43 in favour of South Bendigo at three quarter-time.

The Bloods when scored 5.2 to 3.1 in the last for an 85-62 victory at Marist College Bendigo in Maiden Gully.

The Eagles’ attack was led by Riley Davey, three; Will Hargreaves and Joel Wittingslow, two.

Jack Moresi, Joel Wittingslow, Cooper Attard, Leo Wilson, Lucas Hoctor and Ryan Wilson were the Eagles’ best.

Maiden Gully scored a big win against North Bendigo in the under-14 reserves, division three clash.

The Eagles won 21.19 (145) to 1.2 (8).

Multiple goalkickers were Oscar Emmerson and Hamish Landry, three; Jordan Baxter, Connor Berry, Evan Lindsay, Connor Speirs, Xavier Tingley and William Trotter, two.

Hamish Landry, Ash Curnow, Jordan Baxter, Ryder Demeo, Connor Berry and Oscar Emmerson were best for the Eagles.

In the under-12A competition, Maiden Gully YCW defeated St Francis of the Field by 61 points.

The Eagles dominated the first half on their turf at Marist College Bendigo in Maiden Gully.

At half-time Maiden Gully led 53-7 and scored 4.5 to 2.2 in the second half.

The Eagles won 12.10 (82) to 3.3 (21).

Leading goalkickers for Maiden Gully YCW were Jack Hargreaves, five; Matilda Rose, three; and Tyson Smith, two.

Jack Hargreaves, William Waters, Matilda Rose, Nate Ralton, Tyson Smith and Jack Farley were best for the Eagles.

The Eagles played St Monica’s in the under-12C match at Marist College Bendigo.

The match ended in a 48-23 win for St Monica’s.

Goalkickers for the Eagles were Riley Muir, two, and Bailey Rogers.

Best for Maiden Gully YCW were Henry Rossignuolo, Ashton Hutton, Logan Hardiman, Riley Muir, Hardingham Harry and Bailey Rogers.

In under-12D, Maiden Gully YCW took on Strathfieldsaye.

It was Storm which won 92-13 in the Eagles’ nest at Marist College Bendigo.

Braxton Bracey and Deacon Lovell were on target for the Eagles.

Elliott Penny, Zach Sheahan, Jax Noonan, Connor Wyatt, Axel Derrick and Riley Pakot played well for Maiden Gully YCW.
