Two tribes of Magpies flying high
THE tribes of Magpies from Castlemaine and Maryborough were flying high across the weekend’s second round of the Bendigo Bank Bendigo Junior Football League season.
Grading matches for under-16 Boys, under-14 Mixed, and under-12 Mixed were played.
Premiership points in the under-15 Girls and under-12 Girls competitions were up for grabs.
It was a clash of the Eagles and Magpies as Maiden Gully YCW took on Castlemaine in the under-16 Boys match at Marist College in Maiden Gully.
The Eagles won 13.14 (92) to 7.3 (45).
Castlemaine’s attack was led by Ben Cue on two goals.
Best for the Magpies were Ben Jardine, Oscar Giddings, Max Matheson, Magnus Britton, Ben Cue and Charlie Waters.
Maryborough played Strathfieldsaye in the under-16 Boys match on Storm’s turf at Triple M Park in Tannery Lane.
Storm won 14.15 (99) to 1.2 (8).
Billy Skinner goaled for Maryborough.
Best for the Magpies were Campbell Wood, Logan Howell, William Soulsby, Riley Skinner, Nash Fraser and Jasper Trickey.
The Magpies were in hot form in their under-14 matches.
Castlemaine kicked 25 goals in a 162-9 win against South Bendigo at Marist College.
Declan Brasher booted seven goals for the Magpies as Jack Elliott added five.
Other multiple goalkickers were Abraham Harrington, three; Riley Fitzpatrick, Jakoby Noulton, Jude O’Sullivan and Louis Parsons.
Castlemaine’s best were Declan Brasher, Charlie Cordy, Angus Fitzgerald, Louis Parsons, Jude O’Sullivan and Jack Elliott.
It was a 143-17 victory for Maryborough against Heathcote at Triple M Park in Strathfieldsaye.
The Magpies scored eight goals in the opening term.
Leading goalkickers were Cruz Stevens, five; Jack Smith, four; Ed Boyes, three; and Hayden Bartlett, two.
Maryborough’s best were Jack Smith, Max Skinner, Cruz Stevens, Jai Andriske, Darcy Hoban and Will Smith.
In under-12 Mixed grading, Castlemaine marked an 83-6 win against Eaglehawk Hawks at California Gully.
Ted Cordy kicked six goals in a best on ground performance for the Magpies as Jimmy Butler chipped in with two.
Best for Castlemaine were Arlo Speer, Reuben O’Sullivan, Darcy Minster, Jimmy Butler and Miles Cheesman.
Maryborough played Maiden Gully YCW Eagles (1) at Marist College.
The Eagles dominated on their turf to win 140-6.
Alfie Boyes was on target for Castlemaine.
Best for the Magpies were Will Smith, Chad Cox, Maddox Stevens, Max Peters, Patrick Noonan and Bentley Meyer.
