BJFL Week 6 Review | Cats roaring in several age groups

CATS and Tigers were roaring across several age groups in the weekend’s sixth round of the Bendigo Bank Bendigo Junior Football League season.

An 11-point win by Lockington Bamawm United Cats kept them on top of the under-16 reserves, division two ladder.

The young Cats kicked off the day’s footy action at Lockington by marking a 58-47 win against Maiden Gully YCW Eagles.

Scores were locked on 26-all at half-time before LBU scored 4.2 to 1.1 in the third term.

At the final siren the Cats were up 58-47.

Charlie McIntyre led the Cats’ attack on three goals as Harrison Condliffe added two.

Other goalkickers in the team’s fourth win of the season were Will Hann, Aaron Harbour, Charlie Mundie and Tom O’Brien.

Best for LBU were Tye Cox, Charlie Mundie, Cooper Rowlands, Charlie McIntyre, Tom O’Brien and Aaron Harbour.

Rochester’s under-16s team played Maiden Gully YCW Eagles in the seniors match on Sunday at North Bendigo.

At half-time the Eagles led the Tigers, 35-34.

The MGYCW line-up scored 4.2 to 2.3 in the third and won the final term, 14-13, to take the points in a 75-62 result.

Goalkickers for Rochester were Kade Pearse, Trey White, two; Matt Harrington, Rory Hayes, Harrison Keating,  Jimmy Otto and Oakley Tarrant.

Rochester’s best were Lachlan Joyce, Oakley Tarrant, Jordy Rasmussen, Harrison Keating, Oliver Williams and Patterson Eeles.

Rochester was on home turf at Windridge Oval for the under-14 reserves, division one match against Huntly Gold on Sunday.

It was the Hawks from Huntly who soared to a 149-6 result.

Tigers’ co-captain Darby Martin kicked a goal.

Rochester’s best were Harvey Keating, Morgan Boyack, Darby Martin, Jag Tarrant, Reno Mountjoy and Ella Treacy.

The Tigers from Woorinen took on White Hills in the under-18 girls’ match on Sunday at Woorinen.

An unbeaten run by Woorinen was broken as White Hills scored 7.14 (56) to 2.6 (18).

Aylah McLean kicked both of Woorinen’s goals.

Best for the Tigers were Kobe Davison, Emilie Ward, Lanie Somerville, Ngaire Harlan and Erin Johnston.

A big weekend of action for the BJFL kicked off Friday night when the under-12 girls played.

On Saturday the under-9 and under-10 divisions took to the field.
