Bombers upset Saints at Leitchville

LEITCHVILLE-GUNBOWER marked its second win of the A-grade netball season when it upset Heathcote in Saturday’s ninth round of the Bendigo Bank Heathcote District Football Netball League season.

Winless since the opening round triumph at Huntly on April 16, Leitchville-Gunbower played four quality quarters to score a 47-31 victory against the Saints.

The Heathcote line-up made the trek to Leitchville determined to claim the points and keep the heat on the fifth-placed Lockington Bamawm United.

It was not to be as the Lauren Dehne-coached LG Bombers almost hit the 50-goal mark in their best game of the season.

Mount Pleasant bounced back from a loss at North Bendigo the previous round to defeat Colbinabbin on the Blues’ court at Toolleen.

The play of Kristen Lang in mid-court and Liv Slattery in attack were among the highlights of a 47-28 win by the Carine Comer-coached Mount Pleasant.

The Blues were not at their best against North Bendigo, but that did not take the gloss off the effort and play of the team in red, white and blue as it broke its winless run.

A hot run of form by Elmore kept rolling as the Bloods won 74-38 on Lockington Bamawm United’s court.

A formidable Elmore attack has poured in 586 goals and is hot favourite to claim the premiership spoils.

The Bloods have won nine in a row in the ’22 campaign which follows their unbeaten run to being declared last season’s A-grade premier.

Despite the loss, the LBU Cats held fifth spot on the ladder.

The Lauren Bowles-coached White Hills was too strong for Huntly on the Hawks’ court at Strauch Reserve.

The second-placed Demons won 68-25.

North Bendigo had the bye.
