BOORT withstood a brilliant finish by Charlton to score a one-point victory in Saturday’s third round of the Goldacres North Central Football League’s senior footy competition.
The Magpies and Navies were determined to chalk up their first victory of ’22 as they took to Charlton Park.
Triple premiership player Daniel Thiesz played his 250th senior match for Charlton.
The Andy Hawker-coached Boort led 22-8 at quarter-time of the seniors clash, but Charlton hit back to win the next term, 17-10.
Led by the play of Samuel Green, Matthew Chisari and ruckman Nathan Twigg, Boort added 3.1 to 2.0 in the vital third quarter.
It was all the Navies in the last as the Andy Nisbet-coached team slammed on 5.2 as Boort added five behinds.
Greater accuracy kept Charlton in the game, but it was Boort which celebrated victory, 11.12 (78) to 12.5 (77).
Frasier Holland booted a match-high four goals for Boort as Jarrod Starr added two.
Charlton’s attack was led by Riely Thiesz, three; Bailey Kemp and Sean O’Connor, two.
Boort’s best included Jarrod Starr, Frasier Holland and Alex Davis.
Best for the Navies were Tim Hill, Thomas Finlay, Daniel Thiesz, Patrick Soulsby, Aaron Walklate and Ben Roberts.
Donald won every quarter on its way to an 81-64 victory against Birchip Watchem on the Bulls’ turf at George Cartwright Oval in Birchip.
The Royals led 20-16 at quarter-time and 45-36 by the long break.
Defences were on top for a lot of the contest, although Donald was let down by inaccurate kicking as it scored 4.12 in the second half.
At the final siren the Royals were in front, 11.15 (81) to 9.10 (64).
Blake Grant kicked four goals for Donald as onballer Ross Young added three.
Leading goalkicker for the Bulls was Elliot Jaeschke on three.
Best for the Rohan Brown-coached Donald were Ross Young, Ryan Hards, Ryley Barrack, Brody Haddow, Scott Wood and James Wall.
James Lindeback, Lochy Sirett, Marshall Rippon, William Sheahan and Clayton Hinkley played well for the Trevor Ryan-coached Birchip Watchem.
Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers roared to a 101-point victory at Wycheproof Narraport.
The Joel Donnan-coached Tigers led 43-1 at quarter-time and then scored 32 points as it kept the Demons scoreless in the second quarter.
Gun ruckman Ryan O’Sullivan marked a best afield performance as Austin Mertz, Trent Donnan, Brodie Adcock, Luke Martin and Bryce Delmenico were best in a 116-15 result for the yellow and black.
Matt Elliott and Billy McInnes kicked four goals apiece as Flynn McGarry added three.
Justin Bateson and Samuel Faure goaled for the Demons.
Best for the Demons were Bateson, Gedd Hommelhoff, coach Boe Bish, Spencer Allan, Jack McHutchison and Conner Burge.
Wedderburn showed it has plenty of goalscoring power in its clash with St Arnaud at Donaldson Park.
The Sam Barnes-coached Redbacks led 19-13 at quarter-time and then scored 5.4 to just three points in the second.
It was a closely-fought third term which Wedderburn won 33-25 to lead 86-41 at a quarter to go.
Wedderburn went on a final-quarter blitz as it scored 11.3 to 3.3 to win 155-62.
Jordan Rosengren finished with a match-high six goals as Jaran McKay, four; and Ben DeAraugo, three, also capitalised on their team’s dominance in the onball and midfield duels.
The Saints’ attack was led by Dillon ‘Doc’ Baldock and Harley Durward on two.
Wedderburn’s best were Jayden Jones, Jesse Douglas, Tom Campbell, Mitchell McEwen, Luke Holt, and Jordan Rosengren.
Best for the Torin Petrie-coached Saints were William Bertalli, Kurtis Torney, Thomas Bertalli, Bailey Durward, Matthew Goode and Harley Durward.
