Bulldogs, Demons advance to grand finals
GOLDEN Square and the Winslow White Hills Demons won their way through to the Champions IGA-backed CVFL grand finals on Friday night.
The Nathan Manuel-coached Golden Square marked a 17-point victory against Woorinen in the senior women’s preliminary final played under the Queen Elizabeth Oval lights.
Golden Square raced to a 21-9 lead by quarter-time.
Woorinen hit back to win the second term, 10-7.
A closely-fought third quarter went the way of the blue and gold, 8-7.
Golden Square’s tally of 1.2 to a point in the final term sealed a 44-27 victory.
The experienced Isabella Ayre kicked two goals for the Bulldogs as Paynton Jolliffe moved to a season tally of 92 after kicking two majors.
Woorinen’s attack was led by Samantha Johnston with two goals.
Best for Golden Square were Kate Douglass, Courtney Hingston, Isabella Ayre and Gemma Roberts.
Jemma Meehan, Emma Peacock, coach Katelyn Hazlett and Courtney Wakefield were Woorinen’s best.
Golden Square will take on the unbeaten Jordan Cochrane-coached Castlemaine in Friday night’s grand final on the QEO turf from 7.30pm.
A run of back-to-back premierships for Castlemaine began with the ’22 decider against Golden Square in the Magpies’ debut season in the CVFL senior women’s competition.

The Winslow White Hills Demons bounced back from a second semi-final defeat as it scored a 43-9 victory against Woorinen in the CVFL under-18 girls preliminary final on Friday night.
The Demons and Tigers played at Queen Elizabeth Oval.
Stung by a loss to Golden Square in week one of the finals, White Hills led seven-nil at quarter-time of the clash with Woorinen.
As White Hills kicked three goals in the first half it kept the Tigers scoreless to gain a 21-point lead by half-time.
Woorinen fought back to win the third quarter, seven-nil as Sunny Barry was on target.
It was the Demons who fired up to score 3.4 in the final term to complete a 43-9 victory.
A list of goalkickers and best players for White Hills was not supplied.
Best for Woorinen were Chloe Lovell, Madison Johnston, Eva Coffey, Issy Boulton, Meg Young and Emilie Ward.
Friday night’s grand final between Golden Square and White Hills kicks off at 5.30pm at QEO in View Street.
