Central Rivers rolls to big win against Sunraysia

CENTRAL Rivers scored an 11-goal win against Sunraysia in the senior inter-league football match against Sunraysia on Saturday in Mildura.

After an evenly-fought opening term in which Robinvale Euston’s Joe Mezzatesta and Irymple’s Jake Thrum were on target, Sunraysia led 14-12 at Mildura Sporting Precinct.

From there on it was the Marcus Demaria-coached Central Rivers which dominated play.

A tally of 4.3 as it kept Sunraysia scoreless in the second put the CR team in front by 25 points at alf-time.

An attack led by Tyntynder’s Jayden Magro and Nyah Nyah West United’s Brandyn Grenfell capitalised on Central Rivers dominance in the second half.

Central Rivers scored 2.3 as the Don Falvo-coached Sunraysia added four behinds in the third quarter.

The CR team finished with plenty of run as it added 4.8 to 0.2 in the last to complete an 86-20 victory.

Magro finished with five goals in a best on ground performance as Grenfell kicked four.

Jye Barry, Woorinen’s Arnold Kirby and Koondrook Barham’s Mitch Christensen all kicked goals.

Best for Central Rivers were Jayden Magro, Balranald’s Jaxon Neagle, Tyntynder’s Roy George, Nyah Nyah West United’s Joel Walsh, Balranald’s Drew Lloyd, and Koondrook Barham’s Mitch Christensen.

Sunraysia’s best were Robinvale-Euston’s James Zappia, Merbein’s Matt Rix, Mildura’s Sam Kerridge and Mitch Rogerson, Irymple’s Jake Thrum, and Robinvale-Euston’s Braidyn Turner.

The under-15 girls match ended in a 3.5 (23) to 2.3 (15) victory for Central Rivers against Sunraysia.

A list of CR’s goalkickers was not supplied.

Goalkickers for Sunraysia were Chloe Martin and Remi McClelland.

Best for Central Rivers was Carly Shepherd.

Eloise Kalms, Remi McClelland, Livinia Fitzgerald, Eve Jukes, Morgan Barnes and Tayah Shaw were Sunraysia’s best.

The under-14 boys match went Sunraysia’s way against Central Rivers.

The Suns won 8.9 (57) to 2.3 (15).

Goalkickers for Sunraysia were Thomas O’Callaghan, Darcy Plant, Michael Falvo, Aijay McDonald, Paddy Connelly, Cameron Johns, Matthew Phajongdee and Rhett Wescombe.

Best for Sunraysia were Aijay McDonald, Paddy Connelly, Jimmy Milsom, Biagio Tabacco, Thomas O’Callaghan and Cameron Johns.

Best player for Central Rivers was Jedd Morris.

Jarra Kelly kicked the two goals for Central Rivers.

A big weekend of inter-league action kicked off with Friday’s under-16 boys and under-15 boys matches beween Sunraysia and Central Rivers.

A two-point victory by Central Rivers capped a brilliant fightback in the under-16 match.

Sunraysia led 27-7 at quarter-time and 46-31 by half-time.

Both teams scored 1.3 in the third term.

In the last it was CR which added 3.2 and held Sunraysia to a tally of three behinds to complete a 60-58 victory.

Sunraysia’s goalkickers were Joseph Falvo, two; Jude Blundy, Francis Boulton, Ryder Hudson, Luca Iudica, Harper Milsom and Jacob Nowak.

Best for Sunraysia were Felix Smith, Rafele Gallace, Logan King and Tom Connelly.

After scores were locked on seven-all at quarter-time, Sunraysia kicked away to score a 64-28 victory in the under-15s match.

Nicholas Coverdale and Oliver Welsh led Sunraysia’s attack on two goals each.

Other goalkickers for SFNL were Ty Brigante, Sioeli Fangaloka, Blake Lambert, Xzavier Moore and Oliver Zambelli.
