CHARLTON grabbed some silverware this Goldacres North Central senior footy season as it won Saturday’s clash with Donald for the Bunters Cup in the 12th round.
The Navies and Royal Blues clashed at Charlton Park.
Six goals to nil set up Charlton’s win as it slotted 6.5 and kept Donald scoreless in the first quarter.
By half-time the Mitch Collins-coached Charlton led 66-7.
It was a far more evenly-fought contest across the final hour.
Charlton won the third quarter, 23-13, but it was the Daniel Pearce-coached Donald which won the last, 15-8.
Archer Patterson ended with a match-high four goals as Kris Clifford, Thomas Finlay and Seb Zagame kicked two in a 97-35 victory for Charlton.
There were five goalkickers for Donald.
Best for Charlton were Liam Collins, Ben Xiriha, Mason Heenan, Mitch Collins, Archer Patterson and Jackson Zagame.
Kalon Green, Ross Young, Jett Adams, Brady Griffiths, Josh Talty and Dyson Bell-Warren were Donald’s best.
Closest margin of the afternoon was at Wedderburn’s Donaldson Park where the Redbacks took on Birchip-Watchem.
The Ash Connick-coached Birchip-Watchem Bulls charged to a 41-6 lead by quqarter-time.
Wedderburn hit back to win the second term, 28-26.
The Redbacks worked hard to add three goals in the third, but the Bulls booted five to be up by 49 points at the last change.
The Tom Metherell-coached Wedderburn finished strongly to win the last, 28-2, but it was the Bulls who marked a 104-81 victory.
Ben Edwards again led the Birchip-Watchem attack on seven goals as Rhona Conboy kicked four and Nicholas Rippon added two.
Leading goalkicker for Wedderburn was Mitch Jensen on four as Mitch McEwen and Jake Miller chipped in with two.
Best for Birchip-Watchem were Ben Lakin, Ben Edwards, Rhona Conboy, Lachlan Ryan, Austin Dean and Will Lee.
Isaac Holt, Mitch Jensen, Jackson McEwen, Mark Robinson, Zach Pallpratt and Jye Mortlock played well for the Redbacks.
Calder United Lions roared to a 56-point victory at Boort Park.
It was third against second in the Magpies’ nest.
The Dale Cameron-coached Boort started well to lead 20-19 at quarter-time.
By the long break the Lions were up 54-39.
Just three goals separated the teams going into the final term after Calder United scored two goals in the third and Boort booted one.
Inspired by the play of Zane Keighran, Tiger Vearing and Josh Walsh it was Calder United which powered away.
The Lions slammed on eight goals in the last to complete a 120-64 result.
Co-coach Jordan Humphreys finished with six goals as Zach Caccaviello, Steven Kennedy, Darcy Munro and Tiger Vearing kicked two each.
Boort’s attack was led by Ethan Coleman and James Keeble on three and two goals.
Best for Calder United included Jordan Humphreys, Jack Marlais and George Turner.
The Lions team which has Darryl Wilson as non-playing co-coach included former Collingwood and Western Bulldogs key forward Travis Cloke for Saturday’s clash with the Magpies.
Best for Boort were Jhye Baddeley-Kelly, Carlos Egan, Matt Austin, James Keeble, Kayne Rutley and Kieren Jaksic.
St Arnaud took on Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers on the Saints’ turf at Lord Nelson Park.
A tally of 44 scoring shots as it kept the opposition to just three was a sign of the Tigers’ dominance.
Sea Lake Nandaly led 62-nil at quarter-time.
The Scott Driscoll-coached Saints fought back to win the second term, 12-10.
In the final hour the Bryce Delmenico and Billy McInnes-coached Tigers added 11.11 and kept St Arnaud to a goal.
Max Cahoon kicked six goals in a best-on-ground performance as Sea Lake Nandaly won 149-18.
Other multiple goalkickers for the yellow and black were Trent Donnan, three; Andy Collins, Adam Pattison and John Summerhayes, two.
It was another recruiting coup by SLN as former Richmond and Carlton midfielder/forward Andy Collins played his first match for the club.
A great career for Collins included stints with Bridgewater and Sandhurst.
Goalkickers for St Arnaud against the SLN Tigers were Zac Phillips, Darby Schilder and Chase Zander.
Sea Lake Nandaly’s best were Max Cahoon, Trent and Wade Donnan, Brodie Adcock, Austin Mertz and Jack Poulton.
Best for the Saints were Thomas Bertalli, Darby Schilder, Harrison Saunders, Harley Durward, Kurtis Torney and Matt Goode.
