Saints mark impressive victory at Woorinen

THE Saints from Tooleybuc Manangatang upset Woorinen in Saturday’s round 10 action in the Radio 3SH-backed senior footy in the Central Murray.

A 46-point win by the Brad Morris-coached Saints meant they drew level on 24 points with the fifth-placed Woorinen.

Tooleybuc Manangatang charged to a 33-14 lead by quarter-time.

The Marcus Demaria-coached Woorinen hit back to win the second term, 21-13.

Five goals as it kept the opposition to a tally of three gave the Saints a 20-point buffer going into the last term.

Inspired by the play of Josh Williams, Connor McConald and Elliot Chalmers, Tooleybuc Manantang added another five goals in the last to complete a 108-62 victory.

Williams was superb as he finished with eight goals and Kai Kearns kicked four.

Multiple goalkickers for Woorinen were Lachlan Gardner and Lachlan Warburton with two.

Best for the Saints included Kai Kearns, Gareth Grant and Ben Arentz.

Woorinen’s best were Lachlan Warburton, Taylor Cameron, Mitchell Uhlhorn, Henry Thompson, Jye Barry and Tahj Bolton.

Balranald faced a big test on its turf at Greenham Park against the ladder-leading Nyah Nyah West United.

The Jydon Neagle-coached Balranald led 31-23 at half-time.

In the third it was the Demons who fired up to score 5.3 as the Roos added two goals.

Gun forward Brandyn Grenfell went on to kick six goals as Max Thompson added two in a 75-53 victory for NNWU.

Balranald’s attack was led by Colin Andrews, three; and Matt Neagle, two.

Best for a Demons team jointly coached by Jason Murphy and Nick O’Neill were Joel Walsh, Jordan Iudica, Zac O’Shannassy, Lucas Iudica, Joel Campbell and Brandyn Grenfell.

Jack Salau, Colin Andrews, Matt Neagle, Lachlan Lellman, Ian Fuller and Rory Fitzgerald worked hard for the Kangaroos.

The Cohuna Kangas overcame a slow start to win at Lake Boga by 51 points.

Lake Boga led 13-5 at quarter-time, but from there it was the Jack Geary-coached Kangas who seized control.

Cohuna won quarters two and three by margins of 27 and four points.

A 23-point lead at three quarter-time was 51 by the end after the Kangas added 5.5 to 1.1 in the last.

Joel Helman kicked three goals as Chris Anderson, Daniel Coates and Xavier Mitchell added two in an 82-31 victory.

There were no multiple goalkickers for the Magpies.

Jack Geary was best on ground and had great support from Jack Donat, Jackson Williams, Xavier Mitchell, Chris Anderson and Sam McGlone.

Best for the Dean Helmers-coached Lake Boga were Xavier Sherlock, Koben Ryan, Zac Warne, Rory and Fraser Colville, and Taylor Johnstone.

Koondrook Barham put in a great effort to be within a goal of Mallee Eagles by half-time of the clash at Barham.

The high-flying Eagles scored 5.3 to 2.4 in the third quarter to lead 80-57 by the last break.

Shaun Harrison went on to kick a match-high five goals as the in-form Darcy Hourigan added four as Mallee won 112-90.

Eagles’ coach Brent Macleod and Andrew Mead-Harding booted two goals.

The River Raiders’ attack was led by Billy Driscoll and Lachlan Laursen with three each.

Cambell Davison and Reagan Hamilton kicked two goals for the Will Callow-coached Koondrook Barham.

Best for Mallee Eagles were Joe Halloran, Brent Macleod, Harrison Allen, Kieren Bourke, Clem Miller and Darcy McGregor.

A list of Koondrook Barham’s best was not supplied.

Kerang had the bye.

Tyntynder and Swan Hill played a stand-alone match on the King’s Birthday holiday weekend on June 8.

The Bulldogs won 103-97 at Swan Hill’s Alan Garden Reserve.

Cohuna Kangas are at home to play Balranald.

Kerang meets Lake Boga at Kerang’s Riverside Park.
