Cohuna Kangas continue jump up ladder

COHUNA Kangas have jumped to the sixth rung on the senior footy ladder Saturday’s round 13 action in the Radio 3SH-backed Central Murray competition.

The Jack Geary-coached Kangas are now just a win and seven per cent behind fifth-placed Balranald at five rounds to go in the home-and-away series.

Cohuna played inspired football on its turf to beat Tyntynder by 10 goals.

The Kangas led 34-30 at half-time and then slammed on seven goals as it kept the Bulldogs to a tally of three points in the third quarter.

Captain Joel Helman, Jacob Mitchell and Xavier Mitchell all kicked four goals as Cohuna charged to a 104-44 victory.

Tyntynder’s attack was led by Justin Ellis and Jayden Magro on two each.

Best for Cohuna were Xavier Mitchell, Jackson Williams, Joel Helman, Jack Geary, Jacob Mitchell and Cooper McLoughlan.

Matt King, Matt Gilbee, Ned Lay, Brock Storer, Harry Simpson and Isaiah Bull were best for the Jack O’Rourke-coached Balranald.

In a rematch of last year’s grand finalists it was Kerang which outpointed Balranald on the Blues’ turf at Riverside Park.

Balranald led 10-6 at quarter-time, but from there it was Kerang which scored 12 goals and kept the Kangaroos to just two.

Tyson Clingan kicked two goals as 11 team-mates added a goal in a 90-28 win for the Troy Coates-coached Blues.

There were no multiple goalkickers for Balranald.

Best for Kerang were Josh Nitschke, Nick Lang, Martin Kelly, Sam Heavyside, Lachlan Ross and Bradlee Pay.

Huge plus for Kerang was the return of Adam Baird for his first match since the sixth round against Mallee Eagles.

Best for the Jydon Neagle-coached Balranald were Jaxon Neagle, Ryan Middlebrook, Drew Lloyd, Harrison Soraggi, Jack Helgeland and Brodie Fitzgerald.

Woorinen won a hard-fought contest with Swan Hill at Swan Hill Recreation Reserve.

The Marcus Demaria-coached Woorinen led 22-15 at quarter-time and 34-24 by the long break.

Defences were well on top in the third term as the Tigers kicked a goal and held the Swans to a tally of four behinds.

Will Collicoat and Adam Saunders finished the match on two goals each as Woorinen marked a 61-30 victory.

Ned McKeown led the Swans’ attack on two goals.

Woorinen’s best were Henry Thompson, Taylor Cameron, Jye Barry, Arnold Kirby, Regan Vesty and Matt Gardner.

Jarvis Keogh, Nyawi Moore, Kallen Heslop, coach Michael Herlihy, Tom Holdstock and Toby Thoolen were Swan Hill’s best.

Nyah Nyah West United was too strong on its turf at Nyah for Koondrook Barham.

The Jason Murphy and Nick O’Neill-coached Demons led 28-7 at quarter-time and then scored four goals to one in the second.

Gun forward Brandyn Grenfell passed the 50-goal mark as he finished with a match-high five goals in the 113-32 victory.

Other multiple goalkickers for NNWU were Nick O’Neill, Joel Walsh and Liam White on two.

Koondrook Barham’s attack was led by Kye Attwell and Jordan McKinnon on two.

Best for the Demons were Joel Walsh, Brayden Bigham, Nick O’Neill, Jordan Iudica, Ethan Saville and Blake Larkings.

Jack Shannon, Reagan Hamilton, Tom Amor, Scott Wood, Jack Thrum and James Martin played well for the Will Callow-coached River Raiders.

Mallee Eagles kept Tooleybuc Manangatang goalless as it won by 101 points at Lalbert.

The Eagles soared to a 52-5 lead by half-time and then added another eight goals in final hour to mark an impressive 108-7 victory.

Andrew Mead-Harding led Mallee’s attack on four goals as Darcy Hourigan and coach Brent Macleod chipped in with three each.

Another multiple goalkicker for the Eagles was Shaun Harrison on two.

Best for Mallee Eagles were Harry McGregor, Jayden Post, Billy O’Meara, Darcy McGregor, Andrew Mead-Harding and Darcy Hourigan.

Was an incredibly tough afternoon for the Brad Morris-coached Saints in which Johnathan Marsden, Jesse Wilson, Connor Hazlett, Blake Grant, Ryan Domaille and Kallum Hazlett were best.

Lake Boga had the bye.

Nyah Nyah West United will be on its turf at Nyah to play Swan Hill.

Tooleybuc Manangatang takes on Kerang at Tooleybuc.

Balranald faces Koondrook Barham at Balranald’s Greenham Park.
