Kangas clip Eagles’ wings at Cohuna
COHUNA Kangas kept finals hopes alive as it thrashed Mallee Eagles in Saturday’s 14th round of senior footy in the Radio 3SH-backed Central Murray season.
The Kangas marked a fifth consecutive victory to now have a win-loss tally of seven-six.
Since a 37-point loss at home to Kerang in the ninth round the Jack Geary-coached Cohuna has charged toward the top five.
The Kangas are a win and just over per cent behind the fifth-placed Balranald at four rounds to play in the home-and-away series.
On Saturday the Kangas slammed on eight goals and held the Eagles to just one in the opening term.
Mallee hit back to win the second, 13-6.
Defences were on top for most of the third quarter.
Cohuna scored 2.3 and kept the Eagles to a tally of two points.
The Kangas added 4.6 in the last to complete a 102-23 victory.
Six goals by Jacob Mitchell earned best afield honours as captain Joel Helman kicked three goals and Jarrod Findlay added two.
Joe Halloran led Mallee’s attack on two goals.
Best for Cohuna were Jacob Mitchell, Jackson Williams, Sam McGlone, Will Lee, Joel Helman and Chris Anderson.
On a disappointing afternoon for the Brent Macleod-coached Eagles it was Harry McGregor, Billy O’Meara, Harrison Allen, Jayden Post, Troy Anderson and Beau Bennett who were best.
Woorinen won a high-scoring match at Lake Boga.
The Marcus Demaria-coached Woorinen scored seven straight goals in the first term as Lake Boga added 4.2.
In the second it was the Tigers who again controlled most of the play to score 4.4 as the Magpies replied with a tally of 3.1.
Woorinen won the third term, 16-13, and then scored four goals in the last as Lake Boga booted two.
At the final siren the yellow and black led 112-71.
Arnold Kirby and Tom Langford kicked four goals for Woorinen as Jye Barry, Will Collicoat and Josh Stone chipped in with two each.
Lake Boga’s attack was led by David Gourdis on two.
Best for Woorinen were Taylor Cameron, Tom Langford, Jye Barry, Blake Reid, Arnold Kirby and Lachlan Warburton.
Xavier Sherlock, Zac Warne, Josh Wills, Fraser Colville, Ryan Fox and Kai Everett worked hard for the Dean Helmers-coached Lake Boga.
Nyah Nyah West United marked a 10-goal win at home against Swan Hill.
The Demons raced to a 35-7 lead by quarter-time and led 63-20 by the main break.
Both teams scored 3.2 in the third term.
Gun forward Brandyn Grenfell went on to kick eight goals in a best afield performance as NNWU won 120-60.
Max Thompson booted four majors for the Jason Murphy and Nick O’Neill-coached Demons.
Swan Hill’s attack was led by Cooper Angus, coach Michael Herlihy and Ned McKeown on two each.
Best for the Demons were Brandyn Grenfell, Max Thompson, Zack Threadgold, Nick O’Neill, Blake Larkings and Liam White.
Michael Herlihy, Thomas Isma, Toby Thoolen, Jarvis Keogh, Luke Phelan and Harry Graham were best for the Swans.
Kerang dominated at Tooleybuc to beat the Tooleybuc Manangatang Saints by 73 points.
A sign of Kerang’s control of the contest was a tally of 35 scoring shots.
The Troy Coates-coached Blues led 23-1 at quarter-time and 62-7 by the long break.
Tooleybuc Manangatang hit back to win the third, 13-6, but Kerang replied with a score of 5.2 as it kept the Saints to tally of 1.1 in the last.
Josh Hann kicked a match-high four goals as Brett Kennedy booted three and Troy Coates added two in the 100-27 result.
The Saints’ attack was led by Connor Nutting on three.
Best for Kerang were Martin Kelly, Adam Baird, Nick Lang, Josh Hann, Brett Kennedy and Lachlan Ross.
Blake Grant, Connor Nutting, Jaicob Kenny, Rydar Morris and Sam Morton were best for the Brad Morris-coached Saints.
Balranald kept Koondrook Barham to a goal in the clash on the Kangaroos’ ground at Balranald’s Greenham Park.
The Jydon Neagle-coached Kangaroos led 10-nil at quarter-time and then scored 4.5 to a behind in the second.
Seth Connell, Ian Fuller, Drew Lloyd, Jaxon Neagle and Harrison Soraggi all finished with two goals as the Roos won 89-9.
Jordan McKinnon was on target for Koondrook Barham in the third quarter.
Best for Balranald were Jack Jones, Lachlan Lellman, Harrison Soraggi, Mason Fitzgerald, Drew Lloyd and Rory Fitzgerald.
Jack Shannon, Chester Gardner, Scott Wood, Reagan Hamilton, Tom Amor and Cambell Davison were best for the Will Callow-coached River Raiders.

Koondrook Barham will face Lake Boga in Barham.
