COHUNA Kangas fought on to beat Mallee Eagles by four points in Saturday’s 16th round clash in Radio 3SH-backed Central Murray senior footy.
The Kangas and Eagles played out a great match at Cohuna Recreation Reserve.
Mallee led 16-12 at quarter-time before Cohuna hit back to win term two, 19-13.
The Jack Geary-coached Cohuna bounced away to a 14-point buffer at a quarter to go.
Mallee turned up the heat and was rewarded with two goals, but Cohuna’s tally of 1.1 was enough to clinch a 51-47 victory.
The Kangas’ attack was led by Corbin Anderson with three goals.
On a tough day for forwards, Mallee co-coach and on-baller Harry Allen slotted two goals.
Best for Cohuna were Tom Toma, Corbin and Chris Anderson, Ricky Monti, Will Lee and Jayden Cordy.
Jonah Devlin, Troy Anderson, Jayden Post, Beau Bennett, co-coach Brent Macleod and Harry Allen were Mallee’s best.
Tooleybuc Manangatang climbed to the fifth rung as it won at Swan Hill by 139 points and Koondrook Barham was beaten by Lake Boga.
The Brad Morris-coached Tooleybuc Manangatang led 34-19 at quarter-time and 65-22 by the long break in the Swans’ nest.
It was all-Saints in the second half as they slammed on 16 goals and kept Swan Hill to a solitary major.
At the final siren Tooleybuc Manangatang led 169-30.
The Saints’ attack was led by Ethan Johnstone on eight goals as Connor Nutting and Josh Williams kicked seven and six.
The Swans had four goalkickers.
Best for the Saints were Connor Mcdonald, Ethan Johnstone, Josh Domaille, Seb Rogers, Josh Williams and Mack Rogers.
Will Simpson, Thomas Corridan, Luke Phelan, Brenton Halligan, Harry Graham and Darcy Uebergang were best for the Michael Herlihy-coached Swan Hill.
Koondrook Barham could not halt Lake Boga’s run to a 23-point victory at Barham Recreation Reserve.
The River Raiders were fighting to hold fifth place against the seventh-placed Lake Boga.
The Dean Helmers-coached Magpies swooped for an upset 69-46 victory.
Jayden Lonergan led Lake Boga’s attack on three goals.
Kye Attwell kicked two goals for the Marcus Demaria-coached Koondrook Barham.
Lists of bests players for both teams were not supplied.
Nyah Nyah West United marked a 10-goal win at Balranald’s Greenham Park.
It was the Kangaroos who started well on their ground to lead 32-29 at quarter-time.
By the main break the NNWU Demons led 69-40.
The reigning premier controlled a lot of the second half as it scored 8.7 and kept the Kangas to a tally of 3.2.
Demons’ co-coach Corey Daniels kicked five goals in the 124-60 victory.
Alex Birch and Jordan Iudica chipped in with three and two goals.
Was a superb effort by Balranald co-coach Ben Fuller to boot seven goals.
Best for the NNWU Demons were Brady Davidson, Nic O’Neill, Nash Richman, Blake Larkings, Mitch Grinham and Jordan Iudica.
The Demons also have Jason Murphy as co-coach.
Balranald’s best were Ian Fuller, Ryan Middlebrook, co-coach Jack Salau, Cruz Jolliffe, Jack Helgeland and Tom Salau.
The Kangaroos also have Ben Mahon as a co-coach.
Kerang, Tyntynder, and Woorinen all had the bye.

Mallee Eagles and Balranald will clash in the Lalbert nest.
Nyah Nyah West United meets Tyntynder in the showdown of the Demons and Bulldogs at Nyah Recreation Reserve.
