Storm wins great match on Square’s turf

STRATHFIELDSAYE won a great match on Golden Square’s turf in Sunday’s 10th round of the Champions IGA-backed CVFL under-18 girls footy competition.

Storm made its way to Fur Life Oval in Wade Street for the showdown between two of the league’s top teams.

Golden Square led 15-2 at quarter-time and 19-10 by the main break.

In the third it was Storm which scored 2.2 as the blue and gold added 1.2.

Strathfieldsaye turned a three-point deficit at the start of the last quarter into a five-point lead by the siren.

Freja Dahl kicked three goals as Alysha Boyd and Maddie Dunn were on target in a 39-34 win for Storm.

Golden Square’s goalkickers were Lucy Johansen, two; Ava Barker and Luci Kornmann.

Best for Storm were Tessa Skipper, Sophie Ryan, Gemma Fox, Eve Kalms, Evie Nuttall and Freja Dahl.

Bella Eddy, Gemma McPhee, Ava Barker, Lily Mansfield, Alex Filsell and Summer Lowther played well for Golden Square.

At Castlemaine’s Camp Reserve it was the home team which kicked away in the final quarter to score a four-goal win against Sandhurst.

The Magpies led 23-22 at a quarter to play.

Castlemaine scored 3.5 to nil in the final term to seal a 46-22 victory.

Tegan Barry and Olivia Muscat kicked two goals for Castlemaine as Amelia Britt and Chloe Butcher added one.

Goalkickers for Sandhurst were Charlotte Scanlon, two, and Ryah Mackie.

Castlemaine’s best were Tegan Barry, Olivia Muscat, Piper Marshall, Chloe Butcher, Isabella Carter and Lori Whaley.

Lily Franklin, Eilish Grieve, Leni Brown, Milla Franklin, Eryn McManus and Macey McGurk played well for the maroon and blue.

The ladder-leading Winslow White Hills Demons won at Woorinen by 34 points.

The Demons charged to a 33-8 lead by half-time and then added 5.2 to a goal in the third.

At the final siren White Hills led 9.13 (67) to 5.3 (33).

Mia Clark kicked six goals for the red and black as captain Eve Cail booted two.

Woorinen’s attack was led by Sunny Barry on two.

Best for White Hills were Kiara Field, Mia Clark, Jorja Morrison, Jayda Alford and Lily Rochester.

Sunny Barry, Eva Coffey, Lanie Somerville, Sofie Legudi and Milla Stewart played well for the Tigers.

Eaglehawk had the bye.

All of next Sunday’s round 11 matches start at 11.15am.

Golden Square is back home at Fur Life Oval to take on Eaglehawk.

Sandhurst and Strathfieldsaye clash at Queen Elizabeth Oval.

Woorinen hosts Castlemaine.

White Hills has the bye.
