Castlemaine aims to shake down Thunder

THE unbeaten Castlemaine will be aiming to shake down Bendigo Thunder in this Sunday’s round 12 action in the Champions IGA-backed CVFL senior women’s footy competition.

All four matches will start at 1pm.

After a hard-fought 11-point victory on Woorinen’s turf, Castlemaine will be back home at Camp Reserve to take on Thunder from 1pm.

When the Magpies met Thunder in round three it was the Jordan Cochrane-coached premier of the past two seasons which charged to a 116-point victory.

A talented team to represent Castlemaine this Sunday includes Tiffany Bradley, Jemma Finning, Lily den Houting, Chelsea Cole and Taylah Sartori.

The in-form Brianna Burt will be keen to play well for the Pies against her former club.

A Thunder line-up coached by Mick McInnes marked a 39-point win at North Bendigo last round.

Key players for Thunder include Shae-Lee Murphy-Burke, Lucy El Hage, Hannah Perry, Jaime Sawers and Nikeah Anderson.

Britney Mueck also returns to strengthen the attack.

North Bendigo will be home at Bendigo Club Oval in Atkins Street to take on a red-hot Golden Square.

Massive test for the Ross Egleton-coached North Bendigo which was well beaten in the round three match at Golden Square’s Fur Life Oval.

Best for the red, white and blue in last Sunday’s match against Bendigo Thunder were Eilonwy Carr, Ajay Turner, Mackenzie Brouwer, Nicole Brannan and Kira Gibbons.

The Nathan Manuel-coached Golden Square has an eight-one record and sits second on the ladder.

The blue and gold will be eyeing another big victory.

Best in the latest win against Eaglehawk were captain Liz Watkins, Taylah Moore, Gemma Free and Michelle McCready.

Marong will be on home turf at Malone Park to take on Woorinen.

The David Blume and Jimmy Evenden-coached Marong played well to record its first win at White Hills in round nine.

Huge test for the Panthers against the fourth-placed Tigers.

Key players for Marong include Hannah Cue, Crystal Clark, Kyrah Paxton, Dani Jeffery, Bridget Chalkley and Kayla Grant.

The Katelyn Hazlett-coached Woorinen team includes Jenna Bannam, Tenay Fellows, Samantha Johnston, Brydi Lewis and Casy Unger.

It’s the Demons up against the Dragons as White Hills takes on Sandhurst at Winslow Constructors Oval in Scott Street, White Hills.

Both clubs are in their first season in the CVFL senior women’s competition.

The Phil Murley-coached Winslow White Hills team has a win-loss tally of two-six.

A five-five record has the Andrew Saladino-coached Sandhurst in fifth place and well in the race for a finals berth.

When the Demons and Dragons met in round three it was Sandhurst which dominated play at Ewing Park.

After a bye, White Hills will be keen to back in action.

The White Hills team includes Hannah Ripper, Daisy Gee, Courtney Gibson, Kadeisha Smith and Kara Kane.

Sandhurst was in hot form in the Panthers’ den at Marong last round.

Players to watch in the maroon and blue include Ruby Campbell, Lacey Nihill, Chelsea Reeves, Amanda Carrod, Liv Douglass and Maddy White.

Round 12 in the CVFL under-18 girls competition kicks off with Saturday morning’s match between Strathfieldsaye and Golden Square at Enterprise Oval in Strathfieldsaye’s Tannery Lane.

It’s third against second from 10.45am in Storm territory.

Strathfieldsaye is on the rebound from a seven-point loss to Sandhurst.

On Sunday, Eaglehawk will be on home turf at Canterbury Park to play Woorinen from 10.30am.

White Hills and Sandhurst play from 11.15am at Winslow Constructors Oval in Scott Street.

Fifth in the premiership race, Sandhurst will be eyeing another massive upset agianst the unbeaten Demons.

Castlemaine has the bye.
