Storm outplays Square at Strathfieldsaye
STRATHFIELDSAYE outplayed Golden Square in Sunday’s 18th and final round of home-and-away matches in the Champions IGA-backed CVFL under-18 girls footy action.
It was fourth against second as Storm faced Golden Square at Triple M Park in Strathfieldsaye’s Tannery Lane.
Four straight goals as it kept Golden Square scoreless in the opening term gave Strathfieldsaye’s team a sizeable lift in confidence.
The Bulldogs fought back to win the second term, 8-6.
Quarter three went Storm’s way, 8-6.
Both line-ups added 1.3 in the last as Strathfieldsaye marked a 47-23 victory rolling into next Sunday’s first semi-final at Queen Elizabeth Oval.
Storm’s attack was led by Evie Nuttall on two goals.
There were no multiple goalkickers for Golden Square.
Best for Strathfieldsaye were Tessa Skipper, Mikayla Davis, Layla Morrison, Scarlett War and Annabelle Edwards.
Ava Barker, Lily Mansfield, Ella Meharry, Summer Lowther, Alex Filsell and Bella Eddy played well for the blue and gold.
There were big wins for Woorinen and White Hills in the lead-up to their finals campaigns.
Woorinen marked a 121-7 victory on Eaglehawk’s turf at Canterbury Park.
Nevaeh Roberts led the Tigers’ attack on four goals as Grace Ayars and Issy Boulton kicked three.
The team in yellow and black also had Ruby Butler and Meg Young chip in with two goals.
Woorinen’s best were Hollie Everett, Nevaeh Roberts, Tyler Arnett, Charli Conway, Lauren Clarke and Ruby Butler.
Isabelle James, Jayda Mathews-Shanley, Shayla Daffy, Lilly Stevenson, Neve Nisbet and Mary Fisher played well for the Hawks.
The Winslow White Hills Demons won 86-13 on their Scott Street ground against Castlemaine.
The Demons charged to a 28-nil lead by quarter-time.
At half-time the scoreboard read 52-6.
Castlemaine lifted its play to score 1.1 in the third and held the Demons to a score of 1.2.
The ladder-leading White Hills then added four goals in the last for an 86-13 result.
Mia Clark kicked four goals to be best for the Demons as Amelie Haigh and Ella Henery kicked two majors.
Best for White Hills were Mia Clark, Jorja Morrison, Sophie Sarre, Ella Henery, Lily Rochester and Tahlia Kendall.
Olivia Muscat, Chelsea Cole, Chloe Butcher, Shania Kitchingham, Kate Batchelor and Shelby Kitchingham were best for the Magpies.
Sandhurst had the bye.

Semi-finals will be played next Sunday at Queen Elizabeth Oval in View Street, Bendigo.
White Hills takes on Golden Square in the second semi-final at 9am.
It’s a showdown between the Tigers and Storm as Woorinen faces Strathfieldsaye in the first semi-final from 10.50am.
