CVFL Seniors Round 12 Review

Forwards dominate all four matches

LOTS of goals were kicked across all four matches in Sunday’s 12th round in the Champions IGA-backed CVFL senior women’s footy competition.

In pursuit of a premiership hat-trick, Castlemaine put in another ruthless performance on its turf at Camp Reserve against Bendigo Thunder.

The Jordan Cochrane-coached Castlemaine won 132-8.

Tiffany Bradley kicked six goals as Rachael Stubbings capped a best afield effort with four goals.

Other multiple goalkickers for the Magpies were Jemma Finning, three; Brianna Burt and Rebekah Forrest, two.

Nikeah Anderson was on targer for Thunder.

Castlemaine’s best were Rachael Stubbings, Abbey Bertam, Jemma Finning, Eillish Cumming, Maeve Tupper and Ella Cochrane.

Emily Galtieri, Alannah Leach, Ruby Kelly, Shasta Martion, Acacia Edwards and Estella Murphy worked hard for the Mick McInnes-coached Thunder.

A 13-goal haul by Paynton Jolliffe was a highlight of Golden Square’s big win on North Bendigo’s ground at Bendigo Club Oval in Atkins Street.

The Nathan Manuel-coached Golden Square won 171-6.

Jolliffe dominated in the forward 50m arc, but also had great support from Taylah Moore who kicked six goals.

The blue and gold had Victoria Winstanley chip in with three goals and Gemma Free boot two.

Alisha Lourie goaled for North Bendigo.

Best for Golden Square were Gemma Free, Gemma Roberts, Paynton Jolliffe, Kate Douglass, Victoria Winstanley and Tanya Walsh.

Kayla-Brea McIntosh, Roweena Ilsley, Hannah McKenzie, Kira Gibbons, Aisha Mansfield and Rhennan Trotman played well for the Ross Egleton-coached North Bendigo.

Sandhurst marked its sixth victory of the season and stayed in touch with the top four.

The Andrew Saladino-coached Sandhurst won 187-nil against the Winslow White Hills Demons at Scott Street in White Hills.

The talented Amanda Carrod kicked 12 goals for the maroon and blue as Chelsea Reeves finished with seven majors.

Other multiple goalkickers were Lily Campbell, three; and Lacey Nihill, two.

Sandhurst’s best were Amanda Carrod, Chloe Naughton, Lily and Ruby Campbell, Lucy Harrison and Lacey Nihill.

Hannah Ripper, Kara Kane, Kadeisha Smith, Lauren House, Rosie Davies and Trudie Newton were best for the Phil Murley-coached White Hills.

Woorinen won 112-nil on Marong’s turf at Malone Park.

Brydi Lewis kicked five goals for the Tigers as Leonie Schultz added three.

The yellow and black also had Jenna Bannam, Madison and Samantha Johnston boot two goals apiece.

Woorinen coach Katelyn Hazlett was best afield and had great support from Madison Allan, Charlotte Williams, Ngaire Harlan, Kobe Davison and Leonie Schulz.

Bridget Chalkley, Bianca Bourke, Kyrah Paxton, Sasha Law, Hannah Cue and Alex Campbell-Smith were best for the David Blume and Jimmy Evenden-coached Panthers.

Eaglehawk had the bye.

Champions IGA-backed CVFL senior women’s footy ladder:

Castlemaine 858 per cent, 44 points; Golden Square 975, 36; Woorinen 243, 28;  Eaglehawk 148, 28; Sandhurst 178, 24; Bendigo Thunder 50, 16; White Hills 14, 8; North Bendigo 13, 4; Marong 7, 4.

A stand-alone match which features AFLW legend Erin Phillips representing Marong will be played next Sunday at Marong’s Malone Park.

A triple premiership player with Adelaide, Phillips will take to the field for Marong as part of this year’s Carlton Draught promotion.

An Olympian and world champion in basketball, Phillips’ appearance is likely to draw plenty of fans to watch Marong take on Golden Square in the Champions IGA-backed CVFL senior women’s footy season.

The Panthers and Bulldogs match will start at 1pm. The clash was brought forward from round 14.

The 13th round kicks Friday, July 12 when top teams Golden Square and Castlemaine play at Fur Life Oval in Golden Square’s Wade Street from 7.15pm.

All other matches will be on Sunday, July 14 from 1pm.

Woorinen will be on home turf against Winslow White Hills Demons.

Bendigo Thunder plays Marong at Weeroona Oval in Napier Street.

Eaglehawk takes on North Bendigo in the Borough at Canterbury Park.

Sandhurst has the bye.
