Sandhurst stuns Storm at Queen Elizabeth Oval
SANDHURST scored a stunning victory against Strathfieldsaye Storm in Sunday’s 11th round in the Champions IGA-backed CVFL under-18 girls footy season.
The Dragons and Storm played out a great match at Queen Elizabeth Oval.
Wayward kicking was the only blight on Sandhurst’s game.
The maroon and blue dominated the second quarter, but a score of 2.9 meant the margin at half-time was just four goals.
Storm surged back into the game by winning the third quarter, 22-7.
As Sandhurst added four behinds in the last term, Storm scored a goal.
The Dragons held on for a 41-34 victory which kept it in touch with the top four.
Sandhurst’s attack was led by Amelia Grist on three goals.
Tessa Skipper kicked two goals for Strathfieldsaye.
Best for Sandhurst were Mia Maxted, Neve Pinner, Georgia Garlick, Amelia Grist, Myah Humphrey and Lily Franklin.
Scarlett Ward, Eve Kalms, Tessa Skipper, Evie Nuttall, Molly Manton and Sophie Ryan were Storm’s best.
Woorinen won its home game against Castlemaine by 53 points.
The Tigers led 32-12 at half-time.
Castlemaine fought back to score three goals in the third term as Woorinen added 2.1.
The yellow and black fired up to slam on 6.2 as it kept the Magpies scoreless in the final quarter.
At the final siren Woorinen led 83-30.
Grace Ayars and Issy Boulton kicked three goals for the Tigers as Sunny Barry added two.
Castlemaine’s attack was led by Maddyson Hewson with three.
Best for Woorinen were Carly Shepherd, Nevaeh Roberts, Milla Stewart, Issy Boulton, Lauren Clarke and Madison Johnston.
Amelia Britt, Kirah Muscat, Piper Marshall, Maddyson Hewson, Tegan Barry and Lori Whaley were best for the Magpies.
Golden Square scored 20 goals in its match with Eaglehawk at Fur Life Oval in Golden Square’s Wade Street.
The blue and gold won 138-13.
Ruby Demeo and Luci Kornmann led the attack on four goals each.
Other multiple goalkickers were Lily Mansfield, three; Ava Barker and Bella Eddy, two.
The Hawks’ goals were kicked by Hannah O’Toole and Lilly Stevenson.
Golden Square’s best were Mackenzie Bickley, Niahm Hobbs, Summer Lowther, Luci Kornmann, Bella Eddy and Lily Mansfield.
A list of Eaglehawk’s best was not supplied.
The Winslow White Hills Demons had the bye.

Round 12 will be played next Sunday.
Eaglehawk is back on home turf at Canterbury Park to face Woorinen from 10.30am.
The ladder-leading White Hills hosts Sandhurst at Winslow Constructors Oval in Scott Street from 11.15am.
Strathfieldsaye and Golden Square clash on Enterprise Oval in Strathfieldsaye’s Tannery Lane from 10.45am.
Castlemaine has the bye.
