Double chance up for grabs at Bridgewater

THE double chance in the A-grade netball finals is up for grabs as Bridgewater hosts Newbridge in Saturday’s 16th round in Bendigo Bank Loddon Valley FNL action.

It’s fourth against third on Bridgewater’s court from 3pm.

When these teams met in round three it was the Selina Holland and Kristy Gandy-coached Newbridge which won 47-44 at Deepcore Drilling Riverside Oval.

Bridgewater takes winning form into this match as Newbridge aims to rebound from defeat.

In last Saturday’s play the Caz Wood and Olivia Hoiles-coached Bridgewater won 74-47 on Calivil United’s court.

As the Mean Machine powered to victory Newbridge could not stop the unbeaten Mitiamo.

Although the Maroons had home-court advantage it was Mitiamo which netted a 23-goal victory.

Two other matches on Saturday could make or break finals hopes of some teams.

The ladder-leading Mitiamo will be back on its court at John Forbes Oval to play Bears-Lagoon Serpentine.

The Abbey Battersby and Jess Kaur-coached Mitiamo can expect some spirited opposition as the Bears are in sixth place, a win and 13 per cent behind Marong.

Back in round seven it was Mitiamo which beat the Danielle O’Toole and Lara Clements-coached Bears by 43 goals at Gadsden Finance Serpentine Reserve.

The Bears will have gained confidence from a 63-29 win against Maiden Gully YCW Eagles last round.

Back on court after the bye, Marong makes its way to nearby Marist College Oval to play Maiden Gully YCW Eagles.

The Bridget Willox-coached Marong is in fifth place and under pressure from the Bears.

Previous meeting between the Panthers and Eagles ended in an eight goal for Marong on its court at Jackal Oval in Malone Park.

The Leisa Barry-coached Eagles will be determined to take the points at home.

Inglewood will take on Calivil United at Inglewood’s Centre State Scaffolding Oval.

The Caitlyn Cartwright-coached Inglewood will eye a great chance to break its winless run.

In round seven it was the Cindy Portwine-coached Calivil United which beat the Blues at Calivil by 10 goals.

The Demons will be chasing their third victory of the season.

Pyramid Hill has the bye.
