Drage kicks seven goals in Square’s victory

A SEVEN-GOAL haul by Gabby Drage highlighted Golden Square’s win against White Hills in Sunday’s fifth round of play in the Champions IGA-backed CVFL senior women’s footy season.

The Bulldogs and Demons played at Winslow Constructors Oval in Scott Street, White Hills.

An evenly-fought opening term ended with Golden Square in front, 24-14.

The Bulldogs then scored 7.2 and kept the red and black scoreless for the rest of the match.

Inspired by the play of Sarah Mannes, Gabby Drage and Molly Forde, Golden Square kicked on to record a 114-14 victory.

Drage led the attack on seven goals as Gemma Roberts kicked three and Jenna Bannam, Gemma Free and Sarah Mannes chipped in with two each.

Goalkickers for White Hills were Amelie Haigh and Kadeisha Smith.

Best for a Golden Square team coached by Carly Geary and Bec McLay included Ava Barker, captain Liz Watkins and Claire Picone.

Nadia Peebles, Oakley Turner, Catherine Fry, Amelie Haigh, Hannah Ripper and Courtney Gibson were best for the Phil Murley-coached White Hills.

Marong took on Eaglehawk at the Borough’s Canterbury Park.

It was the Molly Metcalf-coached Eaglehawk which raced to a 25-nil lead by quarter-time.

Marong worked hard to limit the Two Blues to just a point in the second.

As the Hawks scored 5.5 across the final half they kept the Panthers to a tally of two behinds.

A tally of 26 scoring shots was a sign of Eaglehawk’s dominance in a 61-2 result.

Eaglehawk had seven goalkickers in a match where Emily Galtieri, Ellie Bailey, Kelly Mensforth, Lexie Moss, Lucy El Hage and Caitlin Evans were best.

Lauren Knight, Katrina Alford, Crystal Clark, Liza Jane Edwards and Caitlin Shaw played well for the Jimmy Evenden and Daniel Bourke-coached Marong.

League action returned to Queen Elizabeth Oval where Sandhurst faced Bendigo Thunder.

Key forward Chelsea Reeves kicked five goals as Scout Carmody added four in a 136-nil victory for Sandhurst.

Other multiple goalkickers for the maroon and blue were Sarah Baldwin, Lara Bish and Charlotte Scanlon with two each.

Sarah Baldwin, Scout Carmody, Ruby Campbell, Chelsea Reeves, Arkie Donnelly and Lara Bish were best for the Andrew Saladino and Liam Ireland-coached Sandhurst.

Stacey Barbagallo, Maddi Brackenreg, Charlotte Williams, Molly Horne, Sarah Lean and Sharlene Cole worked hard for the Mick McInnes-coached Thunder.

Castlemaine and North Bendigo had the bye.

Golden Square takes on Marong at Golden Square’s Wade Street Oval.

Bendigo Thunder and North Bendigo clash on Thunder’s turf at Weeroona Oval in Napier Street.

Castlemaine faces White Hills in the Magpies’ nest at Camp Reserve.

Eaglehawk and Sandhurst have the bye.

Round two in the Champions IGA-backed CVFL under-18 girls competition was played on Sunday.

Woorinen marked a 134-nil victory on Eaglehawk’s turf at Canterbury Park.

Charli Conway kicked six goals and Sunny Barry booted four majors for the Tigers.

Best for Woorinen were Sunny Barry, Lanie Somerville, Lauren Clarke and Carly Shepherd.

It’s been a brilliant start by Woorinen as the Tigers scored a 149-nil win at home against Strathfieldsaye in round one.

On a tough morning for the Hawks it was Tahlia Thorpe, Macey Scoble, Maleah Lawry and Kelly Neighbour who were best.

Golden Square marked a 107-12 victory against the Winslow Constructor White Hills Demons at the Scott Street ground in White Hills.

Lucy Gilbee and Lily Mansfield led Golden Square’s attack on four and three goals.

Best for the blue and gold were Gemma McPhee, Lucy Johansen, Jayde Chappel and Ruby Demeo.

Ella Henery, Matilda Meersbergen, Lucy Newton and Jayda Alford played well for the Demons.

Sandhurst racked up 39 scoring shots in a 174-1 result against Kangaroo Flat at Queen Elizabeth Oval.

Chloe Tweed kicked six goals as Ryah Mackie and Mia Maxted added five and four majors.

Best for Sandhurst were Mia Maxted, Ava Franklin, Hannah Guo and Myah Humphrey.

Charlotte Wylie, Tahlee Gray, Maliha Dean and Shelby Kitchingham were Kangaroo Flat’s best.

Strathfieldsaye had the bye.

Kangaroo Flat and Eaglehawk meet on the Roos’ turf at Dower Park.
