Dragons win classic match with South Bendigo

SANDHURST’S A-team scored a thrilling three-point victory against South Bendigo (1) in week four of the Bendigo Junior Football League’s under-16 boys grading on Sunday.

The Dragons and Bloods played a great match at Ewing Park off Bendigo’s Williamson Street.

Sandhurst led 39-27 at half-time before the Bloods fought back to be within nine points going into the last quarter.

Although South won the final term, 20-14, Sandhurst clung on for a 61-58 victory.

The Dragons’ attack was led by Luke Cameron, Henry O’Callaghan and Griffin O’Shea on two each as Quinlan Cody and Zane MacDonald were also on target.

Best for Sandhurst were Nicholas Harvey, Luke Cameron, Tommy Byrne, Patrick McNamara, Elliot Ryan and Jaxon Kelly.

Sandhurst B faced Marong in Sunday’s under-16 Boys grading match at Ewing Park.

The Panthers from Marong pounced to a 24-7 lead by half-time.

Both teams kicked two goals in the third before Marong surged clear as it won the final term, 30-1.

At the final siren Marong led 68-20.

Oscar Suckling kicked two goals for Sandhurst as Lane Kilcullen added the other.

Best for the Dragons were Campbell Fraser, Angus McInerney, Hugh Bain, Rafferty Brasier, Beau Butler and Noah Rees.

In under-15 Girls grading, Sandhurst scored a 55-29 win against Eaglehawk at Ewing Park.

Mila Chapman and Etta Place led the attack on two goals as Evie Frankum, Zara Grieve, Ahlyssa Moefaauo and Stella Rooke added a goal each.

Best for Sandhurst were Georgia Bray, Ella Saunders, Kiara Daly, Harper McDonald, Evie Frankum and Mila Chapman.

Sandhurst B marked a 12-goal win against Strathfieldsaye (2) at Ewing Park.

The maroon and blue charged to a 29-nil lead by half-time and then added four goals in the third and two in the last for a 73-1 result.

Goalkickers for Sandhurst were captain Ahlyssa Moefaauo on four, Evie Frankum and Stella Rooke on two as Mila Chapman and Alice Fraser chipped in with a major.

Best for Sandhurst were Ahlyssa Moefaauo, Macaila Bannan, Stella Rooke, Zara Grieve, Lucy Jones and Mila Chapman.

Sandhurst took on one of its greatest rivals, South Bendigo in the under-14 Mixed match at Ewing Park.

The South Bendigo (1) line-up marked a 65-41 win against Sandhurst A.

Goalkickers for the Dragons were Jimmy Byrne on two, and Quinn Casey, James Clark, Xavier Mulqueen and Knox Westley.

Sandhurst’s best were Ted Cowan, Knox Westley, Liam Hubble, Louis Travaglia, Kahl McInerney and Quinn Casey.

Sandhurst B was up against White Hills Black at Ewing Park.

The Demons from White Hills won 195-9.

Oliver Lalor was on target and among Sandhurst’s best with Memphis Slattery, Harry Francis, Jye MacDonald, Callen Harrington and Etta Place.

Round four in the under-12 girls competition was played on Friday night at Ewing Park, Kennington’s Harry Trott Oval, and White Hills.

Mount Pleasant marked a 20-13 win against White Hills.

Best for the Blues were Taylah Leask, Pippa Shannon, Evie Kristiansen and Audrey James.

Ebony Morley, Marley House, Lola McGrath and Eliza Renwick-Deards played well for the Demons.

St Therese’s won all quarters in a 42-12 victory against Rochester.

The Sharks’ attack was led by Perry Westley on three goals.

Frank Hay kicked two goals for the Tigers.

Best for St Therese’s were Perry Westley, Lyra Haythorpe, Mila Hughes, Eden Haythorpe, Florence Lapthorne and Sage Reid.

Frank Hay, Ella Ford, Macey Macfarlane, Abbie Griffiths, Ava Rasmussen and Josie Lea were best for the yellow and black.

It was Red against White as both South Bendigo teams clash.

The White line-up won 46-5 as Indi Saunders kicked three goals and Bowie Thurgood added two.

Best for White were Olivia Gardiner, Jasmin King, Baylee Mahon, Sophie Pedrotti, Milla Frankel and Indi Saunders.

Annabella Reeves, Charlotte Morrissey, Mackinnon Murphy, Leila Pellegrino, Maddison Parsons and Remi Morrice were best for the Red team.

Blue took on Yellow in the all-Marong match.

Imogen Coghill kicked three goals as Izzy Evans and Sophie Wardell added three and Sophie Wardell chipped in with two in a 99-7 victory for Blue.

Best for Blue were Kehna Burke, Delaney Flood, Sophie Garlick, Matilda O’Sullivan, Airlie Swanton and Sophie Collins.

Lara Hendy, Sienna Cross, Ada Bell, Keely Brown, Mia Trembath and Elizabeth Morris played well for Yellow.

Golden Square scored a 24-1 win against Eaglehawk.

Bulldogs’ captain Ruby Carter kicked two goals and Molly Dang added another.

Best for the blue and gold were Makayla Soko, Ruby Carter, Molly Dang, Sophie Lethlean, Stella Tully and Emily Curnow.

St Francis Green had the bye.
